Been looking forward to this album for days. Where are the hooks & grooves that grab ya like 'Sons of Soul' or any of Raphael's other productions? Instant Vintage sounds like unfinished ideas. Oh well. Stay with it, it's a grower. I've had it on Advance copy for months now and wasn't keen first few listens. The duet with D especially let me down although I like it more now...

Yeah he's on tour with Joi. Here's a Detroit review by "Notyaavgbrotha" at Okayplayer.com:
"Joi/Raphael Saadiq in Detroit" Man, the show was truly amazing. This was my first time seeing Joi live, and it was everything everyone said it would be. Joi was backed by a 6 member band. Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums(female), and 2 backing singers (Whild Peach and Keisha Jackson). The setlist was as follows; Meow Meow Theme (Copy Cat Intro) If I'm In Luck I Just Might Get Picked Up Ghetto Superstar I Believe Big Payback Interlude Get On You're A Whore Munchies For Your Love Sunshine & The Rain You Turn Me On Missing You Copy Cat Outro All I can say about her was she was raw and real. Her vocals were on point for someone who says she is not the best singer in the world. And to top it off, I went on her bus and bought a copy of Amoeba Cleansing Syndrome ($30.00) Now I already had bootlegs of the 1996 Version and the 1997 Version, but I wanted to support her, and have the REAL deal. On the bottom of the disc she sells, is the statement "STRAIGHT FROM KITTI'S HAND TO YOURS" Saadiq came on with a 10 piece band. 2 Keys, 2 Guitars, Bass, Drums, Tuba/Vocals, and 3 backing singers. his set list went something like; Charlie Ray Body Parts Be Here Still Ray Faithful You're The One That I Like Excuse Me Ask Of You Just Me & You Anniversary It Never Rains in Southern Califonia Get Involved Tick Tock Dance Tonite (w/ Joi) The band was tight, and well rehearsed. They were all in black suits with burgandy shirts and white ties. Saadiq was in blue linen. It put me in the mind of bands back in the day. Sly & The Family Stone, EW&F. Saadiq was in good voice and played guitar a little on two songs. ALl in ALL it is a good show, the combination of Joi and Saadiq was a great idea. If they come to your town go see it. You won't be sorry. I was suprised the crowd wasn't bigger here in Detroit. Meshell drew a MUCH larger crowd a few weeks back. OH YEAH, Saadiq addressed a few issues/rumors, He said that he and shaheed were cool, and that the working relationship just didnt work out. He went on to say Dawn was "Crazy as Hell!"
