So, we're going to see Beck tomorrow.... ...what should I expect? Anything I should be listening to? I only have Guero and Midnight Vultures.

Have fun! Don't worry about "cramming" before the concert. You'll enjoy the songs even if you haven't played them for awhile (possibly even more so for that reason).

I can't find any setlists (not even on his own site) for this tour.
Does anyone have any idea what he's doing? If I hear any of the following: Black Tambourine Clap Hands Get Real Paid Motherfucker ...then I'm gonna be one happy camper.

Being in the same room with you is gonna make me one happy camper. If I was a dude, I'd even be pitching a tent right now. Does anyone have any idea what he's doing? If I hear any of the following: Black Tambourine Clap Hands Get Real Paid Motherfucker ...then I'm gonna be one happy camper.

Just saw the show in MPLS last nite and had A BLAST!
He relied rather heavily on material from Odelay, Midnight Vultures and Guero. Which was FINE by me as those are the only CDs I have from Beck! It was a fantastically fun show. It was in a pretty awful venue here, but even that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the show. Have fun tonite!

Here's the review from the Star and Tribune...
don't read it if you don't want any possible set spoilers! Music review: Beck, band hit their groove, then get weird Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune September 20, 2005 For his visual backdrop Monday night at Roy Wilkins Auditorium, California alt-rock veteran Beck used what he called a "DJ film-scratcher" -- collages of movie images overlapping onto each other in an oftentimes dazzling myriad of light. The music in the nearly sold-out 90-minute performance was similarly piled on thick and occasionally confused, but the overall effect was alluring and sometimes even fascinating. The show started out sounding as scruffy as Beck looked back when he made his 1994 breakout hit, "Loser" (which he played toward the end on Monday). Credit the Wilkins Auditorium's insanely inadequate acoustic for muddying early gems like "Devil's Haircut" and current single "Girl" from the new album "Guero." Beck and his five-piece band also seemed tepid during these songs. The guys hit their groove -- and the concert found its purpose -- when "Hot Wax" was reinvented with a wicked, bluesy slide-guitar and stomping rhythm. From there, the 35-year-old singer and his cronies remade many other nuggets from the catalog: "Sissyneck" sounded more like the Stones' "Honky Tonk Women" than the original from 1996's classic album, "Odelay" (heavily relied on Monday); the new "Broken Drum" was stripped to a raw, staticky electronic whir; and best of all, "Nobody's Fault But My Own" was played on accordion as the band members kicked and clapped the rhythms à la Broadway's "Stomp." For the much of the show, one of rock's great satirists seemed surprisingly straight-laced. One of his bandmates played the role of goofball instead, dancing around Napoleon Dynamite-style to songs such as "Qué Onda Guero" and the encore of "E-Pro." As the night wore on, though, Beck turned odder and odder, culminating in a version of "Where It's At" wherein a cavalcade of boomboxes was brought to the stage. Who'd have thought the singer could have gotten any weirder than he did touring with Oklahoma acid kings the Flaming Lips two years? The craziest part was a long solo set, during which his band members sat at a table and chairs on stage and ate some dinner. They egged him on as he plucked out "Get Real Paid,"Lost Cause" and, best of all, snippets of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" and "I Like the Crotch on You." Just when you didn't think it could get any weirder, the diners, er, musicians started using their silverware, plates and glasses to play the beats in "The Golden Age" and "Clap Hands." Brilliant stuff, and best of all, it's something you can throw at mom when she yells at you for playing at the dinner table - you could be in Beck's band, tell her. ----- The bolded portions were my favorite parts of the nite. So strange but SO perfect...

Saw him last night in St.Paul!
This was my first Beck concert and IT WAS FANTASTIC! The review endorphin74 posted was right on and mentioned some of the songs played, but here is a (mostly complete) setlist from the LA show on 9/16 (I, unfortunately, wasn't at this show, just saw this posted on a Beck fansite): Black Tambourine Girl Where It's At Little One Golden Age Medley Hot Wax Nicotine & Gravy Hollywood Freaks Hell Yes Sissyneck Scarecrow We Dance Alone Knock Out Landslide ::end of medley:: New Pollution Jackass Broken Drum Loser Acoustic - band around dinnner table Cold Brains Lost Cause Do You Realize Guess I'm Doing Fine Clap Hands Devil's Haircut Mixed Business E: E-Pro Pretty close to what he played last night, though he evidently did mix it up a bit and change a few songs here and there... Have fun everybody who is yet to see him! I know you will.

Really proves just how versatile and talented Beck is, imo. I was so happy he did stuff off Sea Change last night! [Edited 9/20/05 16:12pm]

we had a blast last night! the show was pretty close to the mpls show detailed on this thread, with some small differences, but the energy sounded about the same. they started out with some sound problems - in fact, beck said at one point he felt like he was in that will ferrell SNL skit - "hot mic!" - because of some feedback issues - but by the time he went into his acoustic set, they had it all together. fun stuff.

How does his wacky uptempo numbers mix with his depressing country-folk ballads live in a single set? How does that transfer to the audience?

pretty well, really. it's just like listening to one of his albums, where they're mixed in together.

Last night was off tha fuckin' chain. When I read about the band playing silverware and shit, I thought it was gonna come off pretty cheesy but that was my absolute favorite part....oh, and my lustful fantasies about tha Beckness.
Great show! I loved it. Even that McRorie guy was entertaining for a while.
