My friend Adrian has a Bob Marley shirt which is great because Adrian knows all about rocksteady/reggae/dub and owns tons of that music.

But I often spot Bob Marley shirts being worn by people that aren't fans.

no no no!

oh definetely.....Bob's like the main one. I'm not saying you have to be a rasta to be into him.....cuz I sure as hell aint a rastafarian. But at least know more songs than No Woman No Cry and One Love. giggle the main two songs by him that I'm not too crazy about.

the closest thing to a poser t-shirt i have is a death from above 1979 t-shirt i got at the intonation festival this summer. i have their album and i'm not really thrilled with it, but i LOVE the album cover, which looks like this:

so really, i'm not a fan of the band and i hardly ever listen to the album, but i DO own it, and who knows - maybe some day it will grow on me. i'm more of a fan of the cover art than anything, which for some reason i think is really cool and iconic. it's something i see people parodying in years to come, if they're not doing it already.

its a shirt. who cares who wears what. i'm not in any competition over who is the "real" fan. ashlee simpson wearing a ramones shirt is not going to make me worry about whether or not she's a big enough fan to wear the shirt. its very silly.

it is and it isn't. i think if you at least have some knowledge and/or appreciation for the band you're wearing - even if it's tongue in cheek, then yeah, who cares? but if you're wearing a rush t-shirt because everyone else is, and you don't even know what "rush" is, then i think it's kinda lame, sorry. what you wear represents you to some degree.

Stateside, there's a chain of mall shops called Hot Topic that is your one stop place for all poser tees and accessories, basically all things that are from recent pop fad phenomenon. By the time it reaches this store, it's completely out of style and makes the buyer of such clothing look like a dork.

I got a Prince shirt from Hot Topic. shrug A necessary evil, I'd say.

i'm saying "who cares?" why does anyone care if a kid wears a t shirt of a band they don't really know? what significant problem does it pose?

its a t shirt. its fashion. its supposed to be fun, not life altering.

I was wondering when SOMEONE was gonna say this! I totally agree with you Sassy. This is such a middle school level discussion. Most of the artists that have been mentioned are so ubiquitous that you dont' really even have to work too hard to hear their music at all anymore, because it's EVERYWHERE. And quite honestly, even if you ARE the biggest AC/DC fan in the world, if you REALLY feel like you need to advertise it that badly, then you're a poser.

I don't like misrepresenting myself. I could get a cool looking band logo t-shirt from some thrift store and wear it not knowing the logo is for a neo-nazi band. Then other people would see me wearing it and think I supported them and their beliefs. You should always know what you wear.

I should point out that I ultimately don't care what rock shirt a person wears, I wouldn't waste the time questioning them, let them go in peace.

p.s.... I wore a Nirvana-Nevermind tee long before I actually bought the CD, I guess I'm guilty of ..... posing ! cool

IM a music lover so I think its blasphemy and vomit inducing to see people who dont know wearing Tees of clubs or bands they are ignorant of. Using them as simply fashion peices is bogus imho.

no no no...Hot Topic is THE shit. Thank God for it. In a world where your "blackness" is often associated with a fitted cap and 10 shirts and 52 waist jeans, i GLADLY prance my ass into a Hot Topic and buy me some rock tees. I'll be damned if i'm gonna look like anybody around here.

Im in the US at the moment i've been to hot topic. It's very kid orientated and the kind of people who shop there seem to be the type who say "I'm an individual, leave me alone" type who then go on and wear what everyone else is wearing. I think that's the whole irony of it all. As for the T Shirt thing, it is really hallowed ground for me. It's like supporting a football team, you don't around wearing a teams colors when you don't like them. Fashionista's are so shallow it's staggering and further proof that all that making a statement stuff is a load of old bollocks.

Agreed. Its also akin to buying the catalogue of an artist after they die, hit it big, etc. trying to come off as "Oh I've always been a fan" blah blah blah.

Fishbone and Jimmy? confuse

lol I have some old Fishbone shirts (and plenty of Jimmy ones of course) from concerts back in the late 80s-early 90s, but I don't wear them anymore. The reason is, is because back then when you'd get a concert tee, you couldn't get girl sizes at all. pissed They only sold huge, men's sizes. hrmph

I could only wear my shirts to bed then because they were so huge they looked ridiculous.

I believe you on The Misfits, there's no way that the group has that many fans who would actually wear the shirt out, if you were a fan there would be no reason to promote it and show off.

I agree. The Misfits actually ARE one of my very favorite bands nod but I've just been seeing Misfits merchandise everywhere lately. disbelief Even more than Zeppelin stuff, which is pretty amazing actually. I'm sure you could approach almost anyone, and they would probably be able to name at least one Zeppelin song, like "Stairway" of course, but I'd bet my Jimmy Page photo collection that most people couldn't name one single Misfits song. hrmph

Good one. nod "London Dungeon", "She", "TV Casualty", "Devil's Whorehouse", "Green Hell" and "Die, Die My Darling" are some of my favorites.
