Vanity 6 Video Appreciation Thread!

All 3 Videos from V6 Are pure pleasure to watch...and surprising how each will make you go eek if you are a fan.

First there is the Nasty Girl Video - Cheaply Shot yet they look so delicious! It's videos like this one that gave videos a bad name. This looks like it was shot in a lobby near the bathrooms that are located downstairs in a club. Love the leather walls and mirrors.

He's So Dull - Another cheap looking video with the trio in slutty teddys and high heels. Everything is in Baby Pink or blue. Each of the girls are outlined against what looks like a 70's blue screen or something. Nothing terribly interesting in the cheese...but it is a compelling watch the girls "act" out the lyrics while singing. Great close ups of all the girls. The video somehow incorporates the sound efx from the album with a guy falling down the stairs at the end.

Finally the Drive Me Wild Video - Not exactly cheap this time around. There's plot, props and extras! Also of note is the song itself witch is the 12" extended version...which if you don't know is almost like a different song entirely, as Prince really reworked the remix in his own fashion. The result is a treat for the viewer who would not normally have heard the rare remix to the song.

The video itself is a treat for many reasons. First off it's Susans song, so Vanity is pretty much relegated to the back. Also the "plot" borrowed from the opening dialog of Apollonia 6's Ohh She SHe Wa Wa (also sung by Susan). We see Susan asleep and Vanity and Brenda get her out of bed and put her into a car and drive off. Susans teddy bear is tossed to the side of the road. Int he middle of the car ride the gals hit a bump and apparently there is a party outside of the car...Susan is no longer wearing pajama's but a sexy teddy (Again!). And she is on stage with the other 2.

Susan used to date Prince and it is quite apparent that she either got his facial movements/body movements from him or he got them from her. But when she is singing, I swear she is evoking his spririt. It's like we are watching a female Prince on that stage. We also get some camera work that foreshadows his purple Rain era as she bows in prayer formation in front of the camera with a spotlight in the background. Call it forshadowing or call it genius.

The rest of the video after she is done singing culminates with a Party of what looks to be Prince friends and entourage...with really the only recognizeable face being that of Big Chick (as he blesses the camera with his fairy wand). Most at the party are in costume...and its questionable if Prince is among the party crowd. The video tapers off with some trippy smeared video work. And the back to Susans Bedroom where she's been sleeping the whole time...and we realize it was only a dream.

Man, "Nasty Girl" and "Drive Me Wild" both are the shit! Have all three on video. When I was a kid, "Drive Me Wild" did just that.

BG, my cut was Nasty Girl. That beat was just to raw as hell and lyrics were another story by themselves.

You my friend either have a very good memory, or you were lucky enough to somehow get a hold of a tape. I like that video. Big Chick (God Rest His Soul) looked very funny dancing around there. I wish they would've made a video for "If A Girl Anwers(Don't Hang Up) That would've been interesting.
