The new single has been on Radio 2 for just over a week. Its very good, though it sounds like a lovechild of Missionary Man and Little Bird to me!

You mean Hush Hush Hush? I like the Eurythmics track better. It sounds like Eurythmics smile I must prefer that to Annie solo. cool

It all depends. I think they were pretty infallible from about '81-'84. I love almost all of those songs. But the rest of their albums are spottier for me. Her solo albums I think are pretty perfect too. I love how emotional and soulful her solo work is, but I like how freaky and colorful early Eurythmics are. That said, I think she was at her pop perfection peak in the mid to late 80's. It's all good really.

yeah, the first 4 albums, to me, are the essence of Eurythmics. Be Yourself Tonight - as good as it was - took them in a different direction, and it was never the same again. It was a move they HAD to make, to stay relevent. Looking back, I can see that. But at the time, I was very disappointed.

But I think Savage as a whole is every bit as good as Sweet Dreams, and I love Revenge as well.. and Be Yourself Tonight. And We Too are One, for that matter.

But the "real" Eurythmics, to me, is the early stuff. And I love the solo stuff, of course... but it's just not quite the same without Dave.

Off topic a bit - - i've always thought that Paint a Rumour is an underrated song. It should have been a single. I know, I know... but edit it at about 3:30, and damn. it's a tight, different, funky song. It would have really worked as a single. thoughts?

And second off topic bit.... have you listened to Dave's solo stuff? I put together a compilation of his solo material - - the rock stuff and soundtrack stuff kinda mixed, but mostly the rock stuff - - that is excellent. His album "Sly Fi" in particular is fantastic.

I see the transition from 1984 to Be Yourself as being like Bowie's from Diamond Dogs to Young Americans. Strangely enough both happened after their albums based on George Orwell's future dystopian nightmare. Where do you go from there? lol Recover your soul!

So are you suggesting I should make a Paint a Rumour edit? wink

why yes smile it's a great tune to make an edit of. although i just fade it at 330 or so, and it works fine. but you may want to play around w/ it a little...

imagine it as a single. it would have worked, i tell ya!! cool

Sure. Most of those Touch Dance songs would've.

Especially "Cool Blue". That chorus was just begging to be on the radio. Much more so than "Right By Your Side".

Not sure. I'm still trying to fill in some edits for them so I can make my own comps.

"Paint a Rumour" is my favorite song on Touch and among my top 100 songs of all time. It's an all time classic for sure!

You probably won't like me for saying this, but I think the track is bombastic nonsense.

It sounds like Annie is trying to convince the audience by shouting a bit. The track sounds like sumthing they left off Be Yourself Tonight with a reason.

And the music sounds so... so bland. It has nothing that reminds me of that amazing band I came to love. Not even Annie's voice.

sigh

Ouch. Harsh. I've yet to listen to it, but I've heard wildly varying opinions about it. But you like "Hush" right?

That's the one I bought - part of some HMV offer.

I've been looking for it for AGES but it was in none of my local shops. Lo & behold, loads suddenly appeared yesterday but - even when I was buying it - I thought "They better not be getting rid of these for a new collection!". I must be psychic. I hate it when they do that. disbelief

At least I've got it on cd now, I guess. confused

Is this their first album?

New Songs Enliven Eurythmics Best-Of

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Eurythmics have re-teamed to record two new songs for the upcoming retrospective “Ultimate Collection,” due Nov. 8 via Arista. The tracks “I've Got a Life” (the first single) and “Was It Just Another Love Affair?” were recorded in Los Angeles and mark Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart's first new material in more than five years.

“Annie and I didn't plan to go in the studio -- she was staying with me in Los Angeles and we seemed to spontaneously write and record some songs,” Stewart says. “It was just like the old days, songs coming at lightning speed and recorded and mixed in a week.”

Ultimate Collection” is rounded out by some of the most enduring pop songs of the 1980s, including “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Here Comes the Rain Again,” “Would I Lie To You?” and “Missionary Man.”

Eurythmics' last album of new material was 1999's “Peace.” Expanded reissues of the group's studio albums have been in the pipeline for some time but have yet to be given a release date.

Here is the track list for “Ultimate Collection”:

“I've Got a Life”
“Love Is a Stranger”
“Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”
“Who's That Girl?”
“Right by Your Side”
“Here Comes the Rain Again”
“Would I Lie To You?”
“There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)”
“Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves”
“It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)”
“When Tomorrow Comes”
“Thorn in My Side”
“The Miracle of Love”
“Missionary Man”
“You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart”
“I Need a Man”
“I Saved the World Today”
“17 Again”
“Was It Just Another Love Affair?”

I'm really impressed with it - the guy's vocal style reminds me a lot of David Byrne's.
