new EURYTHMICS material confirmed!!

I'm excited, but this should have been a 2-disc set. Nothing from "We Two are One"???!!!

New Songs Enliven Eurythmics Best-Of

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Eurythmics have re-teamed to record two new songs for the upcoming retrospective “Ultimate Collection,” due Nov. 8 via Arista. The tracks “I've Got a Life” (the first single) and “Was It Just Another Love Affair?” were recorded in Los Angeles and mark Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart's first new material in more than five years.

“Annie and I didn't plan to go in the studio -- she was staying with me in Los Angeles and we seemed to spontaneously write and record some songs,” Stewart says. “It was just like the old days, songs coming at lightning speed and recorded and mixed in a week.”

Ultimate Collection” is rounded out by some of the most enduring pop songs of the 1980s, including “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Here Comes the Rain Again,” “Would I Lie To You?” and “Missionary Man.”

Eurythmics' last album of new material was 1999's “Peace.” Expanded reissues of the group's studio albums have been in the pipeline for some time but have yet to be given a release date.

Here is the track list for “Ultimate Collection”:

“I've Got a Life”
“Love Is a Stranger”
“Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”
“Who's That Girl?”
“Right by Your Side”
“Here Comes the Rain Again”
“Would I Lie To You?”
“There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)”
“Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves”
“It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)”
“When Tomorrow Comes”
“Thorn in My Side”
“The Miracle of Love”
“Missionary Man”
“You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart”
“I Need a Man”
“I Saved the World Today”
“17 Again”
“Was It Just Another Love Affair?”

ACK! mad I mean this is nice and all. But I have all those songs..well not the new ones. But there is much lacking...no 1984? no We 2 are 1? Not to mention the most overlooked album...in the garden. I'll stick with the imported GH.

I'd rather have the reissues than another retroscpect that only ups the last one with 2 new songs and the 2 singles off of Peace. I'd be willing to get this if is was all encompassing.

I'm glad and disappointed at the same time.

I would've rather had a 2 disc set covering everything important. But at the same time, I'm glad that this isn't a full new album together. I'd much rather Annie continue with the solo work that she started last summer and get another album out soon. Hopefully this release is the start of their remaster schedule. drool

yup, I agree with all of the above. and I am feverishly hoping
that this is indeed the start of their remaster schedule.

If they don't do it now they'll never get round to it. And why
would they be hanging out together for just the greatest hits?
I mean, they already have one and it's nothing they couldnt do
over the phone, right?

But for remasters and possible inclusion of remixes n outtakes
they might have had to arrange some stuff face to face.

I'll believe it when I see it. I've seen a previous Ultimate Collection come and go...

The tracklist does have some issues, but I will definitely pick this up if it comes out. Are the older tracks remastered?

I will pinch Annie non-stop if they ain't.
Even though the versions we have are quite okay...
I'll probably like this version better.
It took me five years before I could listen to the cleaned up versions of Crystal Ball and Power Fantastic.

Yeah, there's a certain charm to crap sound quality bootlegs. But it seems criminal to leave 2 such important songs off the remasters.

but there's a difference between bootleg material and released material
the released songs are usually just polished and sound louder and more
crisp. so that's ok and preferable.

prince releasing his bootlegs is a different matter since he seems to
insist on playing "Days of Wild" in the BG intro to a new "Moviestar"
remaster.

What can I say? It only confirms my thoughts he is behind those two bootleg labels himself.

A real Prince United Against Bootlegs would have released a polished version of the previous bootlegged material. Even editing a scream out of Moviestar makes sure the bootleg version stays valid.

Prince is milking is two ways.

DIdn't I read somewhere that this retrospective was to come after the re-issues. Like this capped all of those.

I believe "I Love You Like a Ball and Chain" was released as a promo single in some markets. I would add that as well, if there is room smile

This is what should be released after all of the Re-issues. This with B-Sides and remixes (I know I'd buy a box set of their stuff) and then we can all shut up!
