Just curious though, what happened to Roger? I know he died but what happened?

he was shot by his brother neutral

On Sunday, April 25, 1999, Roger Troutman was found shot and critically wounded outside a recording studio in Dayton, Ohio; he died during surgery at a local hospital. Roger's brother Larry was found dead in a car a few blocks away with a single gunshot wound to the head. It is likely that a personal dispute had developed between the two brothers; as far as can be determined, Larry shot Roger, then shot himself.

That's sad , especially because his health was lesser the last time . It was a subject on many Soul-Forums ... May Leroy Bonner live alive and well .

And i dug that SugarKiss album from 1985. The electric re-funked " Fire 85 " in a total new Zapp-jacket thumbs up! . The balads on there are great too . I'm gonna give it a spin 2-nite .

I think "Computer Love" is like one of those all-time perfect beats that you could blend under anything in that tempo.

It really is unique, isn't it? I certainly haven't heard any beat like it before or since.

As much as I love Roger and Zapp, I've never really explored anything outside of those two acts. I'm gonna give Shirley Murdock a go. I can make out that Sugarfoot album, but what's the other one (for those of us who can't make out that small, fuzzy picture)? wink

DALE DEGROAT , LARRY HATCHER , " Sting "-RAY DAVIS ( R.i.P )

This is the HUMAN BODY's second album-release " COSMIC ROUNDUP " .
As you can hear by the title , the sound on this record was quite a different story than their first & classic-soul minded LP . Most of the ZAPP-produced albums in 1985 were directed to a more electric & guitar driven sound , combined with computerized fx . The track " DX-318 " on the HUMAN's "Cosmic"-album is a clear example of that .
_____

Talking about SHIRLEY MURDOCK . There excists a live-bootleg from ZAPP's Budweiser Tour 84/85 . SHIRLEY is singing like no tomorrow on this joint . Also the rare recorded presence of BAD BOBBY GLOVER is an experience to hear . This Tour was just before ROGER started to record his own & side-productions with the fortcoming 1985-sound , like SHIRLEY's " Teaser " / SUGARFOOT's " Fire '85 " / and ofcourse ZAPP's " Itchin' ..." / " Ya Ready To Rock " / etc...
A track from that era which i realy would have liked to see them play live was " It Doesn't Really Matter "

_____

When ROGER TROUTMAN started in his early days as musician , he didn't have much financial backup to buy instruments for his concept to start a band . He could borrow a large amount of money from his dad , with the promise to pay it back when he would earn bucks with his gigs . This directed ROGER to have a well controlled organisation . After his upcoming succes and paying back the loans , he started to invest the rest into real estate . This evolved in the TROUTMAN ENTERPRISES,INC.( see picture above & in the " I Can Make You Dance " video )

Anyone remembers Robert " BIGG ROBB " Smith from ZAPP-concerts ?
Maaayyyn this dude was HILARIOUS !
The one gig i saw with him , he changed quadzillion times from costume .
At the point that " More Bounce " started , he was dressed in this " 1000 Arabian Nights " kinda outfit , blowing soap-bubbles out a machine to the audience . Big props to female singer NICOLE COTTOM in that band-formation who sang an amazing version of CHERYL LYNN's " Got To Be Real "

You are definately a Roger and Zapp fan for remembering The Human Body. I've heard the group mentioned before but I've never heard any of the music. Have you heard the song that he did with Sun called "Wanna Make Love (Flick My Bic)"?

Hey Vainandy ,

Thanx man for the reply .

Yeah , that SUN record was one of the first 70's appearances i saw on which ROGER cooporated .
From SUN has also evolved the dynamic DAYTON , formed by SHAWN SANDRIDGE .
OHIO must have some funky ingredients in their water lol

I saw another topic somewhere on this non-Prince-forum where they asked & mentioned about SUN .
Can't find it back because i lately discovered a recent live-recording from a newly formed HEATWAVE . SUN's founder BYRON BYRD performs with them and lays some furious synth-loops along that concert :

On this last SUN-album , pictured under , the ZAPP-influence can be clearly heard .
Raw & growling synthesizer-funk . Most of the instruments were played by BYRON BYRD himself .

there from a city only about thirty miles from me, my older cousin went to high school with Roger, we were so spoiled with music in the eighties, music dont compare today, I would have love ton see them with Prince and The Time, I saw them a year later, Vanity 6 had taken Zapps place,no complaints

I will never forget the last time Roger and ZAPP came to 1st Ave Nightclub. This was around the time "It's In The Mix" came out. The Announcer introduced him, the back-up singers, horn section and guitar players came out dancing. But there was no Roger. All of a sudden the spotlights started flashing all over the place and there was Roger on the upper left balcony! He skipped all the way to the right side while the whole place erupted. Then finally he came down the stairs and through the middle of the main floor, and while his body guards lifted him to the stage he yelled "Are You Ready To Tear this Mutha$#!@ Up!!??Later during the show, he had a funny exchange with Shirley Murdock. With her cussing him out, And he'd cuss her back on that vocoder voice synthesizer. Too funny. At the end he invited as many people possible on the stage with him for "More Bounce To The Ounce" I got as far s the steps. I had a good time, and i'll never forget it.
