Roger Troutman & ZAPP thread.

You want to talk about some good FUNKY music? Songs like "Dance Floor" "Computer Love" I wanna Be Your Man" "So Ruff So Tuff" "Doo Wat Ditty" His remakes of"Grapevine" and Midnight Hour" and the FUNK classic "More Bounce To The Ounce". I also like "California Love" The song he did with Dre and Tupac Shakur. Good Music, All of it. And it's a crying shame he died the way he did. R.I.P Roger. P.S More Bounce has to be one of the most sampled songs of all time.

Why of course. One of the members of P-Funk is a cousin of Roger Troutman.

I have ran SEVERAL threads on Roger and Zapp, championing them in some form or another. DEFINATELY one of my favorite artists. Roger's guitar playing is some of the FUNKIEST ever known to man. He would be so in the pocket that it was silly. His lead guitar playing was no joke either. I've seen Roger and Zapp live 3 times and each show was killing. My mother and myself both had the pleasure of meeting Roger. One of the nicest people you'll ever want to meet. This was less than a year before his and his brother's senseless deaths. Some of my faves are;

More Bounce To The Ounce
So Ruff, So Tuff
Dance Floor
I Can Make You Dance
Be Alright
Itchin For Your Twitchin
Heartbreaker
I Want To Be Your Man
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

_____

Be Alright

Solid soul : besides the vocoder-funk , this is the other side from the Ohio-unit which is really deep . Bobby Glover doing some great vocals over here .An inspiration for new artists and producers , who have sampled this song a few times .

_____

Itchin For Your Twitchin

The 12" version of this track is worth to buy :
UK pressing :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ZAPP-...dZViewItem
_____

US pressing :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ZAPP-...dZViewItem

I have the UK-pressing at home . Now i'm not shure about the precise duration of both versions . The video from this one is another worth to search for

_____

Heartbreaker

Strong delivered jam . Another inspiration for new artists ( LBC-crew)

_____

Roger did this song on his second solo-album " The Saga Continues " .
The album version was a duet with Wanda Rash ( my fave version ) , and the 12" is with Shirley Murdock .

_____

A similar kinda sleeve , from the Zapp-produced " Human Body " , with the late StingRay Davis ( Funkadelic / Parliament ) , Billy Beck ( Ohio Players , Shadow ) and Larry Hatcher .

And a rare deluxe-packed 12-inch from it

_____

Even rarer .....

We seem to get a Zapp thread a month here. They're one of the great funk bands, and probably my fave of the electro-funk groups. So many classic songs!

Saw them live - just once - and oh boy what a night it was. cool
At a festival in Holland. First band was the Time. Then came Zapp and the last to hit the stage was the GAP-band.

"Now we got the Minneapolis connection, thank you Prince, 'cause you sound so good to me" - Zapp -

"Do it do it Roger do it" cool cool
