All true, but I think the point my friend was getting at was that Bowie, as far as I know anyway, never indicated that it isn't a phase for a lot of people. And with the number of people who take everything stars say and do to heart, perhaps he should have.

Perhaps, but is it his responsibility to set everyone straight (no pun intended) about bisexuality? I think those folks who believe bisexuality to be a phase have got it firlmy cemented in their minds. If Bowie said that it was only a phase for himself, those folks would have just said "Awww, he's just trying to be PC".

Yes, he probably could have been more clear about this, but as it was I think he was just being forthcoming about his own experiences. I don't think he ever thought of himself as the spokesmen for all queerkind, even if many folks DID think he was.

My thoughts exactly. The interpretation of Bowie's comments - and what people have said to you, meow85 - say a lot more about them than they do about Bowie. And whatever his motives, it was still an incredibly brave thing to state publicly.

Coincidentally, I caught a repeat of Bowie on 'Parkinson' the other day, circa 'Heathen' - GREAT interview. Parky asked him about the Ziggy days and his 'camp' persona at the time. When asked "When did you start acting camp?" (I think the question was), Bowie replied "As soon as I put the clothes on!". Which leads right back to what Anxiety and GangstaFam have already said: I think Bowie can completely absorb and disassociate himself from his influences/surroundings simultaneously. If that makes sense.

You're right, it wasn't his responsibility. But it'd be nice to have someone that prominent knock the assumption that bisexuality is just a phase on it's ass.
