Barbra Streisand & Barry Gibb

25 years ago they collaborated for one of the top albums of Barbra's career with Guilty, which is being rereleased in a dual disc format at the end of the month

They have a brand new album coming out Sept 20th, Guilty Pleasures, another dual disc release (there is a standard CD too, for the same price, which doesn't make any sense). The dual disc is here

Amazon had a special where if you order the new album now, you get to hear 3 streaming tracks from the new album - the new tracks are outstanding - thus far I especially like Night of My Life. If you liked Guilty, you'll love the new album. It's great to hear new music from Barry - it's been far too long since he released anything. Apparently someone agrees with me - the album is #3 on amazon right now. Amazon also has a video of another track - "Stranger In A Strange Land", which seems to randomly come up when you go to the main amazon page.

Some good info on how the project happened is here

and more stuff is here

I love Guilty, but whatever song/video they have featured on Amazon now is bad. I'll have to hear the whole album first before I decide whether or not to buy it.

I thought that track was good - the song Night of My Life you get to hear when you order the album is better.

the album is now #1 on amazon. The video seems to come more often up if you click on the music link from the main amazon page. odd they don't have a specific page where it's always at.

Although Barbra has an amazing voice, I'm not really a fan but I do love Barry. I was working in a record store when their last collaboration came out and it was a huge mega seller. We were forever selling out of the record and cassette (yes I said record and cassette). wink

Good for her although I hate the title "Guilty Pleasure". I actually did I remeber checking on Amazon not to long ago and they had a new Sterisand album listed and I checked it and it was called, I think, "Letting Go". It had no cover or detials but was priced like an album.

The so called Liberal Media is already trying to jump her bones saying her new song is anti-Bush but in truth it's pro-troops and really doesn't talk about Bush much. The one line they picked out of the song seems more pro Bush. I just find it funny that they keep going after these established artists and trying to nail them for writing anti-Bush songs. Fox simply mindedly attacked the Rolling Stones fby implying they perform "Sweet Neo Con" in their show....they didn't! I'm not a Sterisand fan (I'm not familar with a lot of her stuff and have only seen two of her movies and one was "Meet The Folkers")but I dig her politics and she seems cool. Go Babs!

About the Stones or Babs? The reviews on the Stones show have been good but the media has been nit picking on this song "Sweet Neo Con". I doubt it's teh single (I'm not sure if there is a single but a lot of the songs are available on Itunes). Needless, the conservatives are taking it personally but let's face it, I don't think the Stones have any asperations to sell massive amounts of CDs of new material (although I'm sure it will debut high just based on this and the fact that they are the Stones!).

As for Babs, this story on the new video just leaked and I don't think Connie even releazied that it has little to do with their almighty Bush and has more to do with the people they love to ignore...the soliders!

For those whose heard the tracks how is the quality of Barry's writing these days with his sons?

In the Brothers Gibb he had Maurice to bounce musical ideas and Robin for lyrical ideas. I get the impression that he and Robin are estranged now.

And for Guilty he was working also with Alhby Galuten and Karl Richardson along with Robin and Maurice.

Here is a great site for those who enjoy The Brothers Gibb.

It does seem that Barry and Robin are not getting along (or even talking) these days. Robin is off touring singing Barry songs. I'm one to collect everything Gibb related, but I haven't really had an interest in hearing Robin sing Words, Jive Talkin', Stayin' Alive, Tragedy, etc. That'd be like Barry singing I Started a Joke - it just doesn't seem right. And Barry doesn't seem to thrilled with the idea either.

It's a shame, too - I don't think Maurice would have wanted the Bee Gees to die with him, but I suspect it'll be a long time, if ever, before Barry and Robin collaborate on music again.

As far as the album, from what I've heard, the quality sounds great - try the links and you can hear a couple of the tracks. It's great to have Barry back making music again.

Billboard review

For all of Barbra Streisand's eccentricities and polarizing political views, her reunion with Barry Gibb—who masterminded 1980's stellar "Guilty"—pairs her with some of the best arrangements she has ever sung throughout the full-length "Guilty Pleasures," due Sept. 20. First single "Stranger in a Strange Land" is a positive yet poignant and timely expression honoring soldiers who have perished "fighting someone else's war." The video is streaming at amazon.com. The melody, Gibb's background contributions and Streisand's impassioned performance are superlative. "Stranger" is written and produced by a pop king and sung by his parallel queen. Priceless.
