what album do you have the most copies of, and why?

hey,

what album do you have most copies of? Same or different issues don't matter.

Mine would be Jeff Buckley - Grace which I have six copies of:

* regular edition (2x)
* legacy edition
* Vinyl look-a-like cd
* Cardboard box - edition
* Paired with "mystery white boy"

and: David bowie - outside

* regular edition
* Double cd - reissue (last year)
* Version 2.0
* digipack edition
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

i usually get rid of an album when i get a new, better version with better quality and more goodies on it...that said, i've probably gone through more copies of 'ziggy stardust' and 'aladdin sane' than any other album, with the possible exception of 'purple rain', which i just used to keep wearing out back in the day.

I like to keep the OGs around.

For example, those Island Records deluxe editions don't come in jewel cases, and sometimes I would rather take just one jewel case rather than a bulky cardboard folded 2 disc with plastic sleeve around it, so I have kept the original CDs.

Sometimes I only need to hear the original configuration anyway, so I kept the old copies around.

same here. i've given away several Parades, have two copies in my car
two at work, at least 4 scattered around my bedroom and a couple more
in storage on the attic

It's one of the few albums by any artist that I feel I always have to
have a copy close at hand

no

it would be though, if Prince had left "Old Friends 4 Sale" and
"Others Here With Us" on it. knowing that he took those off the
album before release makes it kind of hard for me to call it my
favorite Prince album.

although, I don't know what my favorite Prince album would be..
I guess it's a mix of

"Parade/Sign O The Times/The Rainbow Children/The Truth".

Prince is too versatile to ever consider one of his albums best
over all the others. for me anyway lol.

I've purchased over 30 copies of 1999 for various reasons (gifts, replacement copies, etc.).

Currently, I have 7 copies:

  • standard opened CD
  • standard unopened CD
  • 10-track CD (missing "DMSR")
  • vinyl
  • standard cassette
  • Mexican cassette
  • Canadian cassette with alternate cover

biggrin

You guys are all crazy fams. I don't think I have more than two copies of any LP. Usually it's a vinyl and CD copy or in rare cases two CDs, one being a special edition (like Prince's 'Rave In2...') or an import version with extra tracks.

actually, come to think of it, i've purchased at LEAST two copies of ALL of prince's albums from 'for you' through 'graffiti bridge'.

i started out with the first seven albums on vinyl, then i had to have them all on cassette so i could travel with the best possible copies (yeah, i know, a geek is born), and then, around the time the batman movie came out, i found a whole bunch of old prince CDs in a cut-out bin at a mall in indianapolis, and was able to grab ATWIAD, 'parade' and 'lovesexy' for a rotten 4.99 a pop, and so i decided after that to start replacing all my vinyl with CDs...of course, by this point, vinyl was becoming increasingly more difficult to find anyway.

i was far worse with prince's singles during the '80s. when the 7" vinyl came out, i'd get that. then, when the 12" came out, i'd get that too, and put my 7" in the slipcover of the 12". then, when the cassingles started coming out too, i'd get those also because sometimes the cover art was different. by the time CD singles started coming out, i came to my senses and knocked it off with the vinyl and cassingles.

funny thing is, when i had the least money was when i would buy the most multiple copies...when i was a teenager! of course, i didn't have bills, groceries, rent, etc....i could spend all the money i made on fun stuff.

now that i make decent money and can afford nice things every now and then, i'm finding myself thinking more and more, "do i REALLY need this limited edition 'cream' maxi-single with free bonus mini-tamboracca?" lol

I did the exact same thing and bought vinyl copies of every Prince album until they weren't made anymore ('Diamonds And Pearls' was the first Prince album to not have a commerical U.S. vinyl release I believe). I eventually got CD editions of all those and still have the vinyl copies. However, I can't understand the reason for having 5, 6, 7, copies of an album much less 17 or 30.

I don't have 30 copies of 1999 but I've bought at least that many. Most were gifts for people or replacement copies of CDs and tapes that had worn out. Granted, I will admit that having 7 copies is excessive, but when I see a Mexican import 1999 tape for $1, I think, "Why not?" lol

well, some people are completists to the extreme, and if that's what makes 'em happy, then good for them. they're not hurting anyone. myself, i'm only a completist in that i want to have one version of every song i can get my mitts on - after that, i'm happy. i used to be a bit more of a format hag in the past, but now that i'm a little more prudent with my money and the space in which i can store things, i'm a bit more on the minimalist side of things...as much as i CAN be, anyway...

The only record I've bought repeatedly is Television's Marquee Moon. I had to replace a vinyl copy I'd worn out, and I've bought one version to have on cassette and two CDs (the first CD issue of Marquee Moon was notoriously poor, and had to be replaced).

I also own copies of Wire's Pink Flag and 154 on all three formats - but the vinyl version of 154 doesn't really count because it was a terrible pressing that's basically unlistenable.

It's best to have an album in three forms

LP - This is my collectors format. The stuff I keep on my Shelves. Some of the Lp's I've never listened to.

CD - Modern format, needed for excellent quality, new pressings, reissues....etc

Mp3 - Is how I listen to music mostly, portable, quick access

Cassette - The only tapes I keep around now are the rare ones. I had a Metallica Creeping Death Ep that was pretty rare. The Ozzy 81 live Ep that was out of Print. Most of my collection was tapes, Had about 600 pre-file sharing. I decided to convert all of my tapes to Mp3. Hours upon Hours of my life went into that process. Thousands of Mp3s later I gave or sold my collection. Wasn't smart enough to back up my hard Drive though. About three years ago and a year into the conversion my former shit computer crashed and I lost ALL of my tape collection. confused My entire Celtic Frost, Anthrax, Trouble, Voivod, Kings X, Van Halen.....etc ...etc..... (bootlegs), Patti Smith (bootlegs) lots of great shit I downloaded during the Napster heyday.

I keep multiple copies of everything now.

That must have been extremely demoralizing.

I freaked out a few months back when some scumbag, some waste of his genetic heritage stole my entire office clothes wardrobe out of the drier in my apartment block. If I lost my music, I think I'd probably spend a week huddled in a fetal position.
