I realize that Kate came first, but honestly, she seems like Tori-lite to me. Tori's a better singer, better player, better songwriter, far more emotional. Kate's great, but sometimes just too ethereal and whimsical. Tori actually sings about things. lol

Apologies if this has gone up already elsewhere, but i just
spotted this on the Music Week site:-

EMI helped kick off a busy week for the music industry by hosting its quarter four retail conference at London's Abbey Road studios yesterday afternoon.
The event heralded the first airing of Kate Bush’s new single King Of The Mountain, as well as Pharrell Williams single Can I Have It Like That featuring vocals from Gwen Stefani, which is taken from his debut solo album which is signed to Interscope for the US and EMI for the UK. In turn, Robbie Williams and Sir Bob Geldof also turned up to rally support for their respective studio album and Live 8 DVD projects.
Kate Bush’s album will be a double set, with one disc made up of a single track, lasting more than half an hour, while the other will comprise around seven tracks. The album sleeve will also feature a child’s pencil drawing, by the singer’s toddler Bertie.

eek wtf?

Toddler? Isn't Bertie seven or eight now?

You've heard both Never Forever & Hounds Of Love and come to the conclusion that Kate doesn't sing about anything? lol I think you need to go and listen again.

Over-exaggerating of course. I know her songs are about things. But she seems much more of a narrative writer than Tori - more telling stories rather than dealing with a specific emotion or theme.

Yeah, that's very true. Certainly up to and including Hounds Of Love. With the two albums that followed she dealt more with relationship based themes. Although, to be fair, there's a lot of young lust on her debut.

I'm starting to wonder if on her new album, she's going to sound completely different vocally. You know how Joni and Marianne Faithfull dropped several registers in their later years? I'm wondering if the same might've happened to Kate. hmmm

Cloudy, I was listening to 'Between A Man And A Woman' worship the other day and it set me thinking...

Do you think it's directed towards the 'other' woman? Or the media? Or something else entirely?

Curiously, when she sang Comfortably Numb with David Gilmour three years ago, her voice sounded unchanged. Maybe quitting smoking helped. She hasn't sung piercingly high since The Dreaming in '82, anyway (and I'm still gonna try and turn you on to that album mr.green). But sure, age may have effected her voice to some extent. Not long to wait to find out. smile

Dunno really, but her relationship with Del ended after a long struggle sometime in the early 90s, so that might be a clue. shrug
