Curiously, when she sang Comfortably Numb with David Gilmour three years ago, her voice sounded unchanged. Maybe quitting smoking helped. She hasn't sung piercingly high since The Dreaming in '82, anyway (and I'm still gonna try and turn you on to that album mr.green). But sure, age may have effected her voice to some extent. Not long to wait to find out. smile

Do you think it's directed towards the 'other' woman? Or the media? Or something else entirely?

Dunno really, but her relationship with Del ended after a long struggle sometime in the early 90s, so that might be a clue. shrug

Yeah, it's probably about Del - but I was just wondering who (if anyone) it might be directed at. hmmm

Are there any 'behind the song' type books available? She's very cryptic!

By the way, I was also listening to The Red Shoes the other day - I'd forgotten about how much of an emotional rollercoaster the last two tracks take you on. 'Why Should I Love You?' - especially the last minute or so - is so life-affirming; 'You're The One I Want' is one of the most beautiful - but depressing - songs I've ever heard. cry

Simply, it's one of the oddest albums by an already established artist that I've ever heard. And partly because it's actually a very courageous and daring album, full of adventure and wonderfully unpredictable. It's difficult, don't get me wrong, but it's one of those that if you manage to crack, you'll likely appreciate it forever.

Maybe you could start with All The Love & Suspended In Gaffa, see how you get on with those two before moving on to the weirder stuff.

Sadly not. She has spoken about the subject matter of a lot of her songs, but you often get the feeling that she's not quite giving her all. She's a bit Steely Dan in the sense that it's been left to the fans to interpret the majority of the work.

Her broken heart is all over that record. Even on the rather loopy Rubberband Girl where she deals with resilience in the face of some major upset.

Apparantly he's engineering. Dunno if he's playing at all. I would imagine he is.

I'll be over the moon if the new album is challenging and uncompromising but if there are any songs as beautiful as 'And So Is Love' or, in particular, 'Moments Of Pleasure' on there - I'll be very satisfied.

hmmm

The only song I skip is 'Constellation Of The Heart disbelief but today I'm going for 'Big Stripey Lie'. When it was released as the B-side to 'Rubberband Girl' I couldn't wait to get my hands on the album.

I hated Big Stripey Lie. And when the album came out I was like "Wtf is this crap doing on the album?" disbelief Love it now, tho'. biggrin

Yeah, Constellation Of The Heart coulda been so much more than it was. That and Lily are the only two on The Red Shoes I don't much care for.

shocked

You hated it??? omfg I love EVERYTHING about it - the bass, the distorted guitar, the violin (even if I hate Nigel Kennedy talk to the hand ). 12 years and I still have no idea what it's about, though. lol And I quite like 'Lily'.

'Constellation Of The Heart' isn't that bad; just a bit blah. I'm sure she must've had better material in the vault than that. shrug The only other track I'm not so keen on is 'Eat The Music', for the very same reason.

I always though BSL was about refusing to acknowledge the end of a relationship. I could be wrong, tho'. shrug

COTH just ain't quite funky enough. The potential was there... alas, it's just a pretty stale track. But you don't like Eat The Music, either? omfg

No wait... lol

Okay, I should re-phrase that. I do like 'Eat The Music' - it's just not one of my favourites. At least it wouldn't be the first track I put on.

Favourites are (no order): And So Is Love, Moments Of Pleasure, Big Stripey Lie, You're The One I Want, Why Should I Love You?

And, yeah, 'stale' sums up COTH.

Better? wink

I guess. razz

Eat The Music was supposed to be the first single from the album. Dunno why it was pulled, probably would have gone top ten. It should have been released the following year after the title track was issued. Big summer hit, maybe?

Maybe. Maybe not. razz Not if it was the extended version that goes on for about 28 minutes.

I didn't realise it was supposed to be the first single - you'd think 'Rubberband Girl' was the obvious choice. shrug

Any more rumours circulating re: the new album?
