Whenever I see a story on this jingoist troll, I always know what I'm gonna be in for. A bunch of dumb-ass song titles about how freakin' American he is and how he's gonna kick some terrorist pinko ass, and freedom ain't free, blah blah blah.

I wish he and Ted Nugent would just rent a room and give us all a break.

Yet I still read stories on this guy, just because I know I'll get riled by what a reactionary creep he is.

You couldn't make something like him up. He truly is a nightmare character out of a satirical movie. The Hat, The false machismo....somebody put this motherfucker on the frontline already.

Ted Nugent, is like the evil, less campy version of DLR. He's smart, witty and amusing, but he will do anything to live out his perverted manifest destiny. Ted is scary and his music is save for Amboy dukes.

Honey, I swear I had absolutely zero idea that Mr. Keith was such an "interesting" character...hearing this is the kind of thing that makes me want to actually listen to his songs or research his press so I can get a feel for what he's about. I recognize the name because he's won awards and recieved recognition internationally as a result, but um er, uh, if he's on that whole Nugent tangent....hmmm, maybe he's not the country singer for me

I've had a couple of friends that love Toby Keith. I find most of his songs ridiculously annoying but the one song I liked was, I think it's call, "I Wanna Talk About Me". Probably because I liked the video. That the only one though. And if I hear "Courtesy Of The Red, White & Blue" one more time, I swear I'ma hurt somebody.

y'all know what direction my contribution is going to be like. First of all those patriotic comments he adds to his lyrics, you either like them or you don't...after 9.11 (to this day) i swear if I ever run into bin laden I will kick my boot so far up his *** he will be able to tie my shoe-laces with his tongue. Some people were angry back then, it was a normal reaction.

As to him musically. It's the same old argument. Can you relate to country music yes or no. If you've never seen a corn-field up close. If you've never drowned your sorrow in whiskey. If you've never seen it raining fire in the sky...you will not understand it. Country music is about enjoying the simple things in life, a sunset, a landscape, a good honest living, working hard to support your family...that's what i like about it. As for tobey keith. His music has been a bit off until recently. But he hit the nail right on the head with his latest album 'honky tonk u '...best album this year so far imho. If you want to know what he is about musically, not politically, the angry american is not a good staring point. just fire up kazaa and download these tracks: 'nights i cant remember, friends i'll never forget' ; 'as good as i once was' ; 'i love this bar' ; 'beer for my horses' ; 'whiskey girl'...than you can at least judge his music.

So what this whole argument boils down to:...I don't understand Indian music at all, and i never will...cause guess what I'm not fom India. If you're not from 'the country', it's hard to get country music. no shame in that...I'm not from the city so i don't get rap music.

i love indian, country AND rap music. but then again, i'm weird.

if you want to understand indian music (at least the way i've come to know and love it), start with some cornershop and talvin singh - cornershop blends indian styles with indie rock and dance music, and talvin singh does quite the same, only with more of a house/techno style. check out some bollywood music - it's pretty campy, but it's great fun. then check out the heavy hitters, namely ravi shankar. it's not music i listen to all the time, but sometimes i need to have some tabla and sitar in my ears so badly, my blood screams for it.

can't really give any pointers for rap. different people like different stuff. i love the old stuff - grandmaster flash and the furious five, run dmc, all the super early NYC stuff, public enemy...and there's some recent hip-hop that i like, but you can hear the old skool stuff in the new music i like. what it comes down to is energy and intelligence to me. if all i had to go by was stuff like 50 cent and the game, i'd say i hate all rap music too. fortunately, they are to rap as creed was to rock. there's better stuff bubbling under that thin surface.

as for country? i may be the biggest fussbudget here. artists like johnny cash, loretta lynn, tammy wynette and willie nelson cannot be touched by anyone in the so-called "contemporary" country scene. all "contemporary" country is to me is a bunch of american idol contestants dressed up in cowboy clothes. the best country music soothes and reassures. it makes you laugh. it makes you wanna light up another marlboro red and pet your dog. it makes you wanna listen to it while you're fixing breakfast and your family is still sleeping and you have that precious quiet time to yourself. even songs like "take this job and shove it" might have been angry, but they were funny, too. johnny cash's angriest work always included the ramifications of giving in to one's anger. toby keith doesn't take that responsibility. moreso, his music sounds like overproduced pap. i've heard some of his other "non-jingoist" songs, and it might be good for line-dancing lessons, but it sounds disposable to me. but i really do think i set the bar too high in terms of what country music i'll listen to. ever heard the album by the knitters? it's a country album by some of the members of the punk band X. really good stuff - sounds like it could have been recorded 30, 40 years ago, but it's fresh sounding as well. that's what i like. not a bunch of autotuning and airbrushed studio tricks.

anyway, i dunno - it's like zappa said...as long as one person likes someone's music, there's no such thing as "shit music". so, clearly toby keith isn't shit music. not to you. and i can respect that. but artistically, asthetically, ideologically and otherwise, i can't abide the man.

Lucinda is great. There are many Americana type female artists that are singer/songwriters that are awesome.
My husband & I listen to Kasey Chambers, Melissa Ferrick and many other great female artists that do not get top 40 radio play.
There's so much talent out there that does not get Clear Channel play but they are great artists, especially live.

I try to see the best in all music performers...but that motherfucker just gets on my last nerves. It's not just his music, it's the entire whole thing! I honestly wonder if he sells CDs outside of America at all!
