Can't put them in a "Bring Back" thread because technically they just released an album last year and really haven't gone anywhere. So I'll put them in a "Love Me Some" thread because that is how I feel. The Indigo Girls rocks!

No one does folky harmony better than these two. Amy and Emily sing with passion and emotion and their music just puts me in a mellow reflective mood. I'm of the mind that love is love so I think most with an open mind could relate. If you can't get over the fact that some of the songs have a lady singing about their love for another lady, this is probably not your cup of tea.

"Galileo" are "Closer to Fine" are beautiful and haunting. "Shame on You" is the best Van Morrison song than Van Morrison never did. "She's Saving Me"...just lovely. So many more.

I will always have an indelible link with the Indigo Girls because I taught at that South Carolina high school where the band was invited to play and then disinvited because of their orientation. The principal didn't know they were lesbians and the group was invited to come play at a dance. A couple of dumbass parents called and complained, he cancelled under pressure and the school got some national exposure bacause of it. I was teaching 9th grade English and, being the openminded Southernor that I am, simply found the situation embarrassing. The band didn't end up playing, some students protested, and the scandal went away, leaving another backasswards black mark on this state of mine.

Well, I love them. Y'all come on down to South Carolina, Indigo Girls. We're not all inbred homophobic yokels down here.

Okay, apparently I may be the only one who loves me some Indigo Girls. That's alright. I'll listen by myself then.

They are one of my Top 10 favorites. Many have seemed to grow bored with them in the recent years but I have not. They have been a part of my life for many many years and have seen them live about 5-6 times both with band and without. They are incredible live either way!

Their self-titled major label debut is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever experienced! 'Blood & Fire' and 'Kid Fears' (w/Michael Stipe) are two of the most heartbreaking songs ever. Amy Ray (my personal fav of the two) rips into these songs with so much passion and emotion that I don't know what to do with myself when I hear them but either sing along out loud or cry.

Each album has it's precious moments. Thier work in the 90's was very impressive. From the folky NOMADS, INDIANS, & SAINTS (1990) to the more conventional RITES OF PASSAGE (1992) to the polished pop/rock of 1996's SHAMING OF THE SUN and 1998's COME ON NOW SOCIAL (with a more harsh political tone)..they always delivered. I own everything by them and I usually love to pop in some Indigos when I'm at home on a weekend and light some candles and listen.

They've gone back to the more minimalistic folk/rock in the last few years and have resulted in a couple of wonderful mellow albums in BECOME YOU (2002) and ALL THAT WE LET IN (2004). They just released RARITIES a comp full of b-sides and hard to find tracks including their version of Elton John's 'Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters' which is amazing.

I really could go on and on...But I love them and always will...

For those curious...try these for a start:

INDIGO GIRLS (self-titled) from 1989...all acoustic all passionate and heartbreaking. Has their most popular song..'Closer To Fine'

RITES OF PASSAGE (1992)- Has one of their most popular songs...'Galileo' and Amy Ray's version of 'Romeo & Juliet' and live favorite 'Chicken Man'

SHAMING OF THE SUN (1996)-Has 'Shame On You' one of their most rocking, catchy songs they've ever written. Probably their most commerical album beginning to end (even though it did not do as well as their earlier albums)

RETROSPECTIVE (2000)-Their 'hits' collection (though they didnt really have charted hits. These are their most popular and recognizable songs with some fan favorites as well as IG favs. 2 previously unreleased tracks surface with some vocal support from Joan Osborne and Sheryl Crow!

Check them out...if you love heartfelt, brutally honest, hook-laden music...you will love the Indigo's for sure...then go see them live and sing your heart out!

My BF loves these ladies. I wouldn't go that far but I do really enjoy them from time to time. I really like:

I used to go see 'em live with the BF every tour and they put on a ROCKIN show. But, we've taken the last few tours off. They did a show at First Ave a few years ago. It was mad-packed, but soooo much fun. I think that spoiled us, hence the break from seeing them...

Rites of Passage is a brilliant album. Not so interested in the others.

Galileo's okay, but the highlights of that album for me are Ghost, Let it be me and Love will come to you. In that order.
