The great thing about Star Wars though is that it isn't boring.

Neo Soul should be used to put children to sleep.

Well Star Wars have become almost predictable too... A good fight at the beginning..a love story, drama parts.. a big fight at the end...

Soul music is for the soul music lovers..I have no idea why the White Stripes and Coldplay and all them are special but I'm not gonna bash them because that music will put me 2 sleep too.

Co-Sign. Too many people bash genre music they don't even like. All music is not going to be screaming guitars. I like Coldplay but, I don't want to listen to that all of the time. Soul and Funk are my main things and I don't spend to much time trashing rock groups since I am not totally into it but, that does not stop rock fans from putting in their 2 cents.

I know. I could spend lots of time talking about how boring Alternative Rock is to me but I'm not cuz I know nothing of it rather than hearing it sometimes at work.

You know aside from Prince's guitar playing, you and I agree a on a lot.

Oh, CS - Van Hunt's lyrics are tight and hi sound isn't "neo" soul, its a bit different.

Sorry, kid...as long as there are wack ass rappers and weak ass R&B singers...Neo Soul will ALWAYS be around. Good music thrives.

Your right Van Hunt is just boring.
The type of CD you play at Barnes and Nobles in the restroom.
His live show is pretty good though.

You know you're desperate in an argument when you have to resort to making fun of other things the person likes.

FYI, my favourite director is Stanley Kubrick, and my favourite movie is The Shawshank Redemption.

I love Star Wars movies (III-VI) for the heart, action, imagination, and underlying themes like redemption and spirituality.

But yeah, OMGWTFLOL He likes tha StarWarz? what a loosar!

biggrin You are on point all the way with that brief overview of each artist (especially the Bilal) & Im with everything you say, 'cept I think the Van Hunt CD has 5 really good tunes on it. That's 2 more than Bilal anyways !! smile

TheSexOfIt is just a well known comedian as his taste is so bad anyway but Dax is just a sad man with a mis-informed mind. People with taste should ignore this guy/girl in future wink

This thread is shit!

Those aforementioned artist are the best that it gets nowadays...and U can throw in Raheem Davaughn also.

There are no more Stevie Wonders, Al Green's and Marvin Gaye's so this is what we have. All music can't be rock and roll. mad

Like I said, Neo Soul is for the more mature sect of music lovers. Those that respect the live band and great lyrics; those that know what good music sounds like, not what the brainwashed radio stations are playing. More than likely, the ones that don't like Neo Soul are probably under the age of 25 and think Crunk is the shit and think Aaliyah invented harmonies.

They don't want to be classified as "neo soul"

Just as Erykah embraces her own "freak-quency" on Worldwide Underground (where most of the songs are uptempo bangers).

And jaguar Wright eagerly titled her album "Divorcing "Neo" To Marry Soul"

Raphael Saddiq's "Ray Ray" is hott and contains mostly uptempo and good soul jams...Leela James too.

u have to do some reasearch b4 u just automatically assume.

That said, Van Hunt's album just dropped last year, he'll probalby drop another one next year. Dude played at the restaurant I work at here in Atlanta last summer, just him and another guitarist and was BAD.ASS. And I thought this before I bought the album. You should go check him out! I guess that constitutes a dick ride so.... razz

At least all of the artists mentioned brings or did bring something different to music at a time when all you hear on the radio is club songs/sex songs. And truthfully even when so-called neo soul artists are out, it seems like they are not marketed and supported like other singers and radio doesn't always embrace unique and new things. How much do you actually hear Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Raphael Sadiqq, or Jaguar Wright?
