No! Not at all. I love MJ. I think he's a fabulously gifted singer. And nobody sounds like him.

I don't really discuss him much on here, cuz his situation is just too sad to me. But I think his music is wonderful.

Yeah, i don't see why people just can't appreciate the
music for what it is, and not for who the person singing it is.
OK, i just confused myself.. hmmm

They will. Probably. In time. Look at what a mess Elvis made of himself. People generally end up remembering the good.

Anyway, I dunno if I could list just 5. Maybe excluding the old Jazz vocalists cos Louis Armstrong would be #1 I reckon.

most of you arent picking who you think are the most unique voices, no one ever does, threads like this usually turn into favourites rather than who they truely think have unique voices. most the people listed, ive heard many people sound like them.

I probably wouldn't put MJ in my Top 5, but as a fan it's funny hearing so many people trying to imitate his voice and failing. I like that about unique voices, often imitated, never duplicated.

such as?

david bowie, prince, freddie murcery, most of the r'n'b singers like marvin gaye. sure they might be unique with their looks and music and they might be genius but their voices arent unique, there just alot of peoples favourite singers so thye always include them. a truley unique singer you can tell who they are the instant you hear them, with all those singers i doubt many could, only diehard fans

prince STILL has a wider vocal range than just about anyone singing pop music right now, so i'd have to argue you there.

and david bowie's voice pretty much launched the style for countless new wave and alternative acts. i can listen to music made over the last twenty years and point out who's imitating bowie, and even pick out a sample of bowie vocals to prove my point. you don't have a 35+ year career being primarily known as a vocalist, and not have a recognizable voice. come on, now.

im talking about unique, there are many people out there who sound liek him, sure they most likely copied him, but they still sound like him. it might be a good voice, but unique? maybe i just dont have the same opinon of what unique is. to me unique is recognizable to anyone, even non fans, where people try to imitate and still cant sound the same, and will get called on for trying to copy (ex. justin timberlake) its not based on how good a voice is but how unique, differernt(ex. macy grey)

kinda like how d'angelo and maxwell can sound a lot like prince but they can't quite cop the range that prince has?

kinda like how some vocalists can copy the nasally ziggy-era bowie vocal style and some other vocalists can ape bowie's later, fuller, more operatic vocal style, but nobody ever really seems able to switch back and forth between the two like bowie still can at 58 years old?

maybe the problem here is that you're taking it upon yourself to speak as representative for "most people", when you're only one person with a very set-in-your-ways point of view.

Most of the kids who stayed at the local youth shelter I worked at thought Prince was from the 60's. And this was in '95.
