I have Creative Wave Recorder, luckily. I can record whatever that goes in my computer's speakers and turn it in2 a WAV file, thus turning it in2 an mp3.

Look for this program!

Creative Wave Recorder is part of Creative Wave Studio, isn't it? And therefore costs money?

Audacity can do the same thing (record anything playing on your speakers to wav), and it's open source, which means it's free! I use it quite a bit and it's good. Also, because it's open source there are versions for all WIndows OS's, Mac OS9 and OSX, Linux and Unix. It can be downloaded from here : http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

However, if you can't even get your mix to play then Creative Wave Recorder or Audacity aren't going to help. If you can tell me what format it's in I might be able to point you in the direction of software that can convert it to a more conventional format (e.g. wav, mp3, aiff) for you.

RAR is a type of compressed file similar to a zip file made using an archiving program called WinRAR. I wasn't aware that WMP is supposed to be able to open RAR's, but there you go. You can download a trial version of WinRAR here : http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm and go here for further explanation of what they are : http://www.techsono.com/faq/rar.html

That trial version probably expires after 30 days, but if you do a search you can probably find either a cracked version of WinRAR or another program (non trial) which can decode RAR's.

You're welcome, I'm happy to help.

It's not quite automatic, once you've downloaded wrar350.exe you'll either need to do the following :

- Set the file association by right clicking on your .rar file and select the 'Open With...' option, Browse for and select wrar350.exe, and then select 'always use this program to open these files'. Once you've done this you can right click on your .rar file again and you should now see the 'Extract to...' option. When you select this it will prompt you for a destination to extract to (or you can double click on the .rar file and WinRAR will start and prompt you select a destination to extract to).

or

- start WinRar and follow the instructions, it should be straightforward.
