Could Mariah stand on her own??? Well it looks like she's back, her album "the emancipation of mimi" (what is she emancipated from anyway) has put Mariah back on top.
Her new song "shake it off" is doing well, though it's a clean rip off off Bone -Thugs -Harmony, "We belong together" is her classic pop ballad, is #1. My question is could she put an album out with to rappers/well known producers and sell what she is currently selling?? I'd have to say "no". Before for the attack of you hate Mariah starts, let me say, I think she is the most underated songwriter today, and her vocal arrangements on her last couple of songs is amazing, listen to it, not just the words. Her biggest test will be her next album, and the pace she puts them out she will be 39 yeras old, the music biz is clearly a young persons game. your thoughts please....

hmmm.
Her music over the last few albums has been very different than that which she first came out with, but I think this is just her style. Shes never pretended to be able to rap or produce herself, hell, she started off with Mottola! So isnt it just comparable to using seesion musicians in the same way? After all, she doesnt use as well-known producers as some artists do, and the ones she does work with are the same ones shes stayed with for years. IMO shes just morphed this into her "sound", and shes needs people to make it with her, cause shes not Prince!(lol) I want some asses wigglin, I WANT some perfection!!

Every major artist uses big producers in their genre, it's not exclusive to Mariah.
I don't think she has to prove anything with her next album, I think she has done everything there is possibly comercially, This album is great way for her to leave that part of her career (I think she wanted badly to have comerical succuses after Glitter) I wish she would now explore certain styles and ground she has hinted at before, like that "Gospel/jazz" album she has been writing or that David Morales/Mariah album that the two of them have been threatening for years (she is/was meant to perform with him in Ibiza this summer) her butterfly album didn't have any big name producers and did well .
