Any Cody ChesnuTT Fans on the Org? I really dig this cat for some reason. His stripped down approach harkens back to a different time in rock and soul. His 2002 Lo-Fi debut album, The Headphone Masterpiece, is a mixed bag that contains some very good tracks ranging from rock anthems, to life contemplations and immature sex tales all with tounge in cheek humour. Above all though, it seemed very honest. I thought the good outweighed the bad and considered what the music would sound like with a good backing band and a quality studio. I REALLY dig the remake of the Seed, retitiled the Seed 2.0 with the Roots(the most underappreciated band in music right now) on their Phrenology CD. The remake showed ChesnuTT's potential and the sneaky quality of his material. What are your thoughts? [Edited 8/18/05 16:00pm] | |

you know, i always have to look this guy up when somebody mentions him, because i always think he's this hot country singer that i can never remember the name of.

I like his song 'Deliberation'.

I remember when he was 1st busting onto the scene and he played here in L.A. at a poetry gig and rocked "I Look Good in Leather" and I knew that cat was special then. "But what of black women? . . . Look Good In Leather is a damn good song and Upstarts In A Blowout rocks too. I love the raw sound of the album. Kinda has that Dirty Mind bravado to it. | |

oh yeah cody chesnuTT all damn day. There's some amazing music on that album, if the lo-fi approach doesn't bother you. The Seed, With Me In Mind, If We Don't Disagree, Bitch I'm Broke, Look Good In Leather, Smoke and Love, Boylife In America and Enough of Nothing are just some of the great tracks on this set. I hope he never gets the idea to remake this album in some 24 track digital studio, cuz half the charm of these songs is the "recorded on a boombox with whatever cheap instruments I could come up on that day" quality about it. Comparisons to Prince, Lenny Kravitz and John Lennon are inevitable, but I don't mind an artist who wears his influences on his sleeve is the music is well done and catchy. Yea, he has some cool shit on the album BUT a lot of throwaway shit too - should have made it one disc instead of 2 IMO. But I like The Seed, Serve This Royalty, Magic in a Mortal Minute...
