And now for the really exciting stuff. The market was virtually flat this week (+0.7%, or 75k), but down 10.5%, or 1.2 million units, versus the same week of 2004. The weekly total of 10.2 million brings the year-to-date tally to 355 million, which is about the same as the total combined sales of Frampton Comes Alive and The Eagles’ Greatest Hits in 1976. But seriously, folks, the market is currently down 8.2% on the year.

amazing to see mariah move back up the charts to no3, she could go back to no 1 next week with no strong album releases and an expected 40/50% drop in sales from no 1 and no 2 this week. also, with two more singles planned, the fact that she dominates the vma's, the grammy nominations announced soon and the mimi world tour on the way i suspect this cd will just keep on selling.

"Ordinary People" makes me ill because his voice is so shrill. I have issues with him using the monicker "Legend" as well, given name or not.

Hilary Duff's nonsense album has issues of its own, being a "greatest hits" album after only 2 studio albums and marginal hits at best. lol

Lets also remember that SOUNDSCAN is not a total account of what people buy, it is what is ordered by record stores that are part of the Sounscan accounting. Online Sales, websites, 1-800 numbers, tv mail order stuff have nothing to do with it. Not that I really care but I love to see the Industry crashing the way it is, its all because record companies do NOT care about music, they are looking for a million seller then on to the next. The industry is hurting so bad that Once again its Banking on VETERANS to save it again, Releases from Clapton, McCartney, Jovi, Stones, a reissue from Carey, plus a Christmas CD from her again, its what the industry hopes will salvage a disaster of a year MUSICALLY and sales wise.

It's not a greatest hits album. It's a collection of her favorite songs. Does it make any sense considering they didn't even include songs that were on Lizzy Maguire show prior to her album being released? Not really but it almost seems like it was partially her idea. She releases an album every year and at around the same time (late August/early Septemeber). I beat this was a comprimise so she didn't have to do a full album and considering it's mostly previously recorded material and won't cost the label that much..."Why Not".

I like her. She doesn't seem to have any ego and accepts what she is.....a light pop singer of tween music altough when she tries to rock out it's sort of absurd. She apparently doesn't preform "Why Not" anymore...I guess she's outgrown that song....yeah, so maybe there is some ego.

I have no problem with John Legend, BTW. He doesn't show up on my radar, actually.

All of those releases scream of a top ten debut and then falling down the charts....I don't think the industry honestly plans on those albums becoming big hits, including the reissue of "Charmbarclet". In fact, that will probably hurt it! Why oh why do they screw with a good thing? Keep in mind, Carey said "Charmbarlet" was going to be rereleased with new stuff AND weren't we promised a reissue of Gwen's CD with videos and no songs. If an album is selling, it's not a good idea to screw around and release a more expensive verison of it....fans will buy it but it upsets them and then causal fans just get pissed off at the artist!

What Christmas album? I'm not huge fan of christmas music. But I was impressed she had managed to write a new christmas standard in "All I want for Christmas is you" . which I'm sure isn't an easy song writting task. Snow Patrol are remaking that track at am attempt for a UK christmas number #1.

i think the xmas mariah cd is a rumour, not happening. also its a rerelease of the emancipation of mimi with bonus tracks, not a rerelease of charmbracelet which came out 3 years ago and was rereleased in most countries anyway.

You're right. I mean "Mimi". I got confused and also didn't relaize they did rerelease "Mimi" in ohter countries (although I think she was counting on it being rereleased here for sales reasons since the Busta song was actually a surprise hit).
