What's the most you've paid for a CD on ebay? I just purchased an original 1993 cd single of Tupac's "Keep Ya Head Up" which has the ORIGINAL version of "I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto" as the b-side, this version is completely different to the versions released on the "R U Still Down" album, and is hard to find.
The cd single is pretty rare, I just paid $80 for it. But it's fucking great. What's the most you've spent for a single CD on ebay, and was it worth it? |

twenty bucks, never more than that. i don't care if i have to bid a few times, if i'm patient and persistent, i can get most rare stuff i want for twenty bucks.
this doesn't apply to rare paisley park/prince stuff, cuz nobody EVER sleeps on that stuff.

80 for a single???? Too much. A rare album on CD like Vanity 6 or the Family or Apples 6. Those are worth...well quite a bit.
The most I have paid for anything on ebay would be 75 bucks for a Triple Vinyl of Pet Shop Boys' Relentless. THere were very few vinyl pressings (it was a limited CD that came with the specail edition of Very). But it was pressed on colored vinyl (blue, pink and yellow), so that makes it worth the purchase. The other purchase I made was a limited edition pressing of the Orb's U.F. Orb. It came in a plastic PVC bag (I had to cut it open). 2 art "prints" and an extra very limited vinyl pressing of their first album but it was Live. Other high priced music I have gotten...well new Pet SHop Boys Back to Mine and the New Towa Tei album...as they aren't available here. Unless it's got music I really really want, I won't pay more that 20 bucks either...but it HAS to be a full album and HAS to have artwork and be in Excellent condition. Christian Zombie Vampires

this doesn't apply to rare paisley park/prince stuff, cuz nobody EVER sleeps on that stuff. The worth of an item depends on the individual. Militant believes having a rare Tupac single is worth the expense. Good for him. Who are we to tell him he's crazy? That being said, Prince rarities are universally regarded as valuable, because the Paisley Park stuff is out of print. That's why The Family and Jill Scott records are almost literally worth their weight in gold. My "collector's grail" would be a 12" of Sexy Dancer and the 12" version of 17 Days. I don't remember how much I paid for it back then though--just that I couldn't believe I had actually found it. Never heard of a 12" verison of "17 Days".

well myself always on my quest for obscure and old female MC's found a rare german CD single import of J.J.Fad's "Supersonic" the Dreamteam records version released in 87(with 5 girls rapping instead of 3) not the one that made them popular released in 88 on Ruthless records. This disc also included "Supersonic's original B-Side "Anotha Ho" which was a Roxanne Shante,Sparky D.,Real Roxanne,Salt N'Pepa diss...set to the beat of Queen's "Another one bites the dust" yeah you guessed it "Anotha Ho bites the dust!!!" I paid like 30 dollars. [Edited 8/16/05 19:49pm] I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.

True enough. I walked away with my Jill Jones CD (original "tallbox" packaging included) for about 10 bucks. I could sell it used for at least 25-30 now. A friend of mine bought me a copy of the Family on vinyle for twenty bucks at the same used store. In near-mint condition. I could ask and get at least 3 times that amount for it. [Edited 8/16/05 19:49pm] I love JJFad! I swear I still know all the words to the Supersonic album. I only have the tape--I really need to find the CD. I never knew there were originally 5--what were the other two's names? in response to the original question--I spent over $200 on a GoldNigga CD; the one with 16 tracks. I know, I know Tony M. blows and the album isn't that great, but I tend to get a bit obsessed when I start collecting things. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Yes packaging and all. (I thought it was worth a bit more, since it was the 16 track version as opposed to the 15 track one. Plus, I honestly thought there would be more Prince on the album. ) I burned a copy right away and now the original sits on my CD rack. Maybe one day I'll resell it for (hopefully) a profit. I know I could have found someone to burn me a copy, or downloaded it, or whatever and spent less money, but I'm the type of person who needs to have the actual object--the real deal--not a copy. (I'm the same way about my art collection--no posters, only the real deal, which is why my art collection is so small. ) Even though I need the real deal, I'm happy to "share" if someone asks... BTW, I just looked & found a 15 track one available on Ebay--only $20.79 as of right now! http://cgi.ebay.com/Princ...dZViewItem The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. as an aside, i just wanted to throw out a warning to you all - i noticed someone is selling copies of jill jones' album on CD on eBay for like $20 a pop...but be warned: they're CD-Rs, not the real deal!
some of you might be desperate enough to settle for this, but if you're looking for the original CD, be very careful if you're hunting on eBay.
