The second half is definately my favorite of the 1970s. The disco era dominating and it was really reaching it's peak in 1979. Unfortunately, all things always come to an end.

The late 70s is when I first started buying records with my own money, and really getting into music. It was such an exciting time!

I know you said we could only pick five years, but if I could choose a few more,I would pick 1981 and 1983.Those were GREAT years, especially for R&B music.I always insist that 1983 was truly the last great year for pop music.

I like other eras of music but I mainly stay in 1975 to 1985. Disco was my first introduction to music and it ruled the second part of the 1970s. Even though it died after 1979, the funk (even the rap) from 1980 to 1985 was still in the uptempo "partying" tradition of the disco era. When balladeers starting taking over the R&B scene beginning in 1985, that's when I got pissed because, for me, 1985 is when disco died. The "party" era was over.

At least u lived through that era. I was 8 when newjack died (1993). I remember little. But I remember kids like me dancing in schools and on corners to newjack related shit like hammer (of course), guy, Jackos "dangerous" etc... In UK, kids dont dance on street corners. Do they still do that shit in US? As music now is too midtempo to freestlye too anyway mad

Once again, we have something in common. I had a little more fun than you because I was able to party in the skating rinks. However, by the time I graduated high school in 1985 and was able to go to clubs and have some "real" fun as an adult, Shitney Houston had reared her ugly head and influenced everyone to slow things down.

Meh, whitneys ok with me in v. small doses. At least she funk'd up with "my name is not susan", which didn't hit too big.

I ain't into anita baker et all. Or luther vandross (though his "any love" album is good). But Iam only 19. I like slowjams. Mainly al b sure! though.

I love slow jams too but only the ones from the 1970s and early 1980s. I like a few from the 1960s also. I can't stand the ones from the late 1980s to the present because a lot of them sound too poppish. Then, the other ones have too much jazz influence in them.

I love the sensual "after midnight" "turn on a blue light in the basement" type songs by groups like The Stylistics, Blue Magic, The Delfonics, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Switch, Heatwave, etc. These type of slow jams even carried over into the early 1980s with funk groups doing a slow jam here and there like Prince, Cameo, Lakeside, Rick James, The Gap Band, Midnight Star, etc. After 1985, slow jams were sounding less for the bedroom and more "adult contemporary" sounding.

yeah theres sexy then theirs adult contemp (ie that bore sade), then theres cheese (which I like alot).

Jodeci can be blamed for a whole host of clone slowjams in the 90's. Keith sweat started the "iam sorry" slowies. But al b sure! has such good production. His voice is truly original and even haunting sometimes. But Iam mainly about the uptempo's
