I just bought concert tix on eBay for the first time... I feel all dirty.
I usually wouldn't stoop to these levels, but dammit - Beck's coming to town and I'm hellbound to finally see the little gnome perform. Presale AND general sale tickets on TicketBastard sold out in under ten minutes and I was too slow on the draw...ME, who was able to snag first row tickets for the Musicology Tour TWICE last year...can't even get two tix to a steenkin' general admission show! ANYway. Yup. $144 for two $36 tickets. Horrors. Of course, with TicketBastard fees, I probably am not paying too much more than what I would have paid if tix weren't sold out. Still. What's the farthest extent YOU'VE gone to for concert tix? Please. Make me feel better.

sorry to hear that, anxiety.
hopefully knowing that ronnie and i spent $315 on 1st row tori tickets for chicago will make you feel a little better. it was for the pair but still damn expensive.

YOW. that's a lotta clams! where did you get your tix? eBay? I also posted a request on Craig's List, which I'm gonna leave up in hopes of getting tix for Beck's second show, if I get any decent offers... well, my mom paid a ridiculous amount of money to get us 5th row tix for david bowie last year - and i mean RIDICULOUS - as in, i'm embarrassed to say how much - but i gotta say, it was worth it to be able to look up uncle dayvid's nose. i'm looking at it this way - i paid more for two prince tickets last year, and i went to a buttload of prince shows. i've only been to a handful of shows by ANYone this year, so it's not like i'm out of control. then again, for what i paid for two tickets, i could have bought FOUR tickets at face value. better be a damn good show.

Ex-Moderator | Do you remember my story of how I got a ticket to the very first Pixies show in 10+ years? I paid $200 to see a show where the tix were under $30 after sending desperate emails to everyone I knew and found a friend of a friend of a friend who would sell me her extra. And at the time I thought I had to go the show all by myself. Looking back, it was worth every penny. I still can't believe my good fortune in finding someone who'd part with a ticket. Not only was it their first show in how many years but in a tiny little club setting and I clawed my way to so close to the stage I will never, ever forget it.
So don't feel bad. |

So don't feel bad. thanks - i guess it could have been far worse. with ticketbastard fees, the two tix would have been over $90 anyway...compared to your and sassy's stories, i got off cheap. and it really is worth it to me - i've been wanting to see beck play live for years, and i'm still kicking myself for missing the 'sea change' tour. i just have to get over the sticker shock, and then i'm sure i'll be all kinds of excited. meanwhile, i get to look forward to the sufjan stevens show that i paid $16 a ticket for!

Anxiety said: What's the farthest extent YOU'VE gone to for concert tix? Please. Make me feel better. not very far. it's the reason I generally don't go to concerts. the stress and hassle of trying to get good tickets ruins the whole thing for me. my significant other, though, gets possessed and nothing can stand in his way. luckily for me "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

Not quite the same, but I once bought a set of five tickets at around £22 each to see Prince in the mid nineties to take my friends etc, as I had always wanted them to see him live. So it was a big lay out for me.
Only ONE person thanked me. As you can imagine, I was rightly pissed at that. Not only that but the shows were when he was only playing material - so none of them got the true vibe of what a P gig can be all about. It SO sucked buttlips.

I thought tix for the Bataclan aftershow in 2002 at 100 euro were a bit steep. Then again, after the show I declared that I would 500 euro to see another show like that, so no biggie there.

Oh gosh, I'm afraid to admit to the lengths I've gone to to see a good show.
And I'm about to do it again for the Stones.

I guess Beck is more popular in the US than in Europe. I had tickets for his show in June near my hometown and then he cancelled it and so I decided to drive 8 hours to see him live in concert. I bought the tickets for that show a week before it took place and there were still plenty of tickets available. BTW, the show was moved to another venue and as far as I know that was because he didn't sell enough tickets for the other venue With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Yer new avvie is quite shady. I still miss And I saw the Stones live once; Was recorded in our small Amsterdam pop temple Paradiso, the pic is taken backstage, where Prince had THIS (Housequake scanned) pic taken;

Anxiety said: What's the farthest extent YOU'VE gone to for concert tix? Please. Make me feel better. When Bowie was in Germany in 2003, I went and bought two tickets. Then went and bought magazine. To get my money out, I put the tix on a small cupboard in front of the cash register. Back home, I was like ...Forgot them there. Drove back, somebody stole them (yeah, I know I forgot them but still somebody stole them!). Bought two again.

Too bad you didn't remember where your seats were so you could've found them and whooped their asses!

The price of the ticket is forgotten much before the experience if it is a good concert. And as great as the new Beck album is, I'm sure this will be a great one. Hey ~ Anx ~ next time you're doing an all night talk session with TRON have him tell you the INSANE story of how he got tix for BJORK at The House Of Blues in Chicago when they were totally sold out and the scalpers were offering US 200.00 a ticket (like we would have sold them at any price)(and we hadn't slept in like 97 hours). But, find them he did ~ my first time seeing my favourite artist ~ AND we got to meet her and give her gifts. It was pure bliss. Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran
