Didn't have to see it on t.v., cuz I was there! It was the first concert I had ever been to. I was little as hell! My mom and dad took me. Get the dvd. Good thread, annie.

Wow BG Baby, you were a part of history. That concert was defintely milestone in Soul Music for sure.

Yep. For some reason, I remember being TOTALLY struck by The Bar Kays. Even as small as I was, I thought those cats looked real wild and cool. I dug that shit.

You know what, Aud? Looking at it now, that seems to be the case. But, I think it really had to do with that there was just a whole lot of love at that time. Black people still loved OTHER black people AS black people. U dig what I'm sayin'? And Rufus came across with so much warmth and a good spirit, almost like a preacher would have. And people picked up on that in a big way. Like folks were thinking "Even if we had THOUGHT about acting a fool, we're not about to fuck it all up now!"

nod Exactly. BG Baby, Rufus had the warm spirt which channel love and unity throughout the crowd. This is what made this moment in time so powerful.

Cool man you are a part of black history. I love how all the brothers and sister got out on the field and danced and no one got hurt. Just a lot of people having fun.

Yeah and the key word is "a lot of BLACK people having fun." U see that now and compare that to how it is today, two entirely different planets. It's like watching the box set to Soul Train. Look at the clips from the 70's and NOW look at that shit that's on today. Wow.

There's no soul in "Soul Train" any more. They should change the name to the "Hip Hop Train".

The Bar-Kays have always been one my all time favorite groups. I love their music but I have always loved their wild look also.
