wow, when i was in high school, i found this at a dollar store for, uh...a dollar...and i had no idea who she was, but i bought it anyway because i thought the cover looked interesting. i loved it from first listen! the album kinda reminds me of a cross between kate bush and laurie anderson. i don't like the rest of her stuff, with the exception of "calling all angels", which some band or another ruined just a couple of years ago with their lame-ass cover version.

That would be Train, who are a really good live band

Though, i won't bump this around any of my friends. Why? Big Runga makes beautiful pop music. I loved her "Drive" album which I also got for the price of a candy bar, and would love to have that one too. My last five albums must have been: IRM - Virgin Mind The Grassy Knoll - III Ulver - Lyckantropen Themes Matmos - Quasi-objects Klute - The Fear of People If I'm correct.

Huh? another fan of this album exists? Yeah, the stuff that followed wasn't as nice, there were a couple tracks off "Bound By the Beauty" and "When I was a Boy" i didn't mind listening to, but for the most part "The Walking" remains superior. THough, some of her albums before The Walking are very experimental, but at the time i heard/owned them i must've not been musically sophisticated enough to enjoy them.

I absolutely adore kd lang's version of her song "Love is Everything". Has to be heard to be believed. It's honestly one of the most touching songs I've ever heard. I liked her track on the Crow soundtrack too. That's about all I know by her, other than that my former boss is a huge fan.

My last 5 purchased albums, as in a paid $ for them:
1. Garage a Trois - Outre Mer (loving it so far!) 2. Breeders - Pod (had it on tape, needed to finally upgrade to CD) 3. Beck - Stereopathetic Soulmanure (to round off the collection) 4. Stereolab - Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night (found a promo for uber-cheap!) 5. Cabaret Voltaire - Methodology '74/'78: The Attic Tapes (got the whole 3 disc box set for $12)

Stereopathic Soulmanure has some fun stuff on it, including I think a song that wound up on a Johnny Cash album. I think "Satan Gave Me A Taco" is my favorite from that album, plus the Ozzy thing and the freaky-ass sped-up tape recordings. "Cobra and Phases" is an interesting album. "The Free Design" is one of my favorite Stereolab songs, but that album in general is kinda hard to love at first. I eventually got used to it. I think it's a very free-jazz album for them, which threw me for a (dot and a) loop.

I'm just going about collecting their stuff whenever I find it for cheap. I've already downloaded everything they ever put down, so it isn't important to me which order I get them in, cuz I know I'll end up with all of it. I really love "The Free Design" too. And "Fuses". And "Escape Pod". There isn't much by them that I've heard that I don't like. What do you think of "Sound-Dust"?

Have you gotten "Mars Audiac Quintet" yet? That's the one that I gravitated to first and I really like it. Is there anything by them that you're not fond of?

Is there anything by them that you're not fond of? i don't have their first two or three albums...i need to just break down and get 'em someday...i'm familiar with them because i had a roommate who loved early stereolab, plus i have a couple of compilations with early stuff (the BBC sessions, mainly). the only stereolab offering i haven't really been able to warm up to is the "microbe hunters" e.p. that came out right after "cobra and phases". it just sounds too droney and symmetrical after the chaos of "cobra and phases", i couldn't get with it.

Does it fit better within the context of "Aluminum Tunes"? Oh and make sure you get "Refried Ectoplasm" when you're filling in the gaps. I luurrve that. Don't you think it's about time for them to put out another one of their "Switched On" series? I mean, c'mon. I need "Free Witch and No-Bra Queen" on CD!
