this is so sad.

remember 89-99 when the MTV awards used to be hot?

when the performers were the big superstars (eh hem..mariah? the killers? KELLY CLARKSON? GREEN DAY?) who would strut their new shit that would be surprising and interesting? ie:

Prince's "Gett Off"
every Madonna performance (except the Britney Kiss)
Alanis' "You Oughta Know"
TLC's "CrazySexyCool" medley
Lil Kim/Left Eye/Brat/Missy "Not Tonight"
Michael Jackson's HIStory medley
Janet's "If/Thats the Way Love Goes"

Hell, even Paula Abdul...

now...it's all this corporatized, payola, boring "hip" bullshit mixed with washed up wannabes (Ms. Carey) and unfunny superstar hosts (P. Diddy)...this is SOME BULLSHIT!

MTV has started to OFFICIALLY SUCK! "Cribs," "Newleyweds," and "Room Raiders" were apparently just the beginning...

cool The MTV Awards Suck. Every year they hype up this show..& it always is bad. I do not recall any recent shows that were actually worth watching. P Diddy or how i like to call him Puff The Magic Dragon hosting is a bigger joke. He is soooo damn annoying.

MTV 2005 VMA performances
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mariah Carey and The Killers have joined the list of performers for the MTV Video Music Awards.

"We are working closely with Mariah and The Killers to present two of the most sensational show-stopping performances for this year's VMAs," MTV President Christina Norman said in a statement Tuesday.

The 2005 Video Music Awards show, hosted by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, will air live from Miami on Aug. 28.

Previously announced performers include Kanye West, Green Day and Kelly Clarkson.

If I'm correct, they have a link with Eric Roberts. maybe they'll do a duet/medley of "It's Like That" and "Mr. Brightside" where Mariah will be in a wedding dress and ditch Eric Roberts for the lead singer of the Killers.

hah!

i hope mariah shocks everyone with the hottest performance of her career. the industry shit on her when she went coocoo for cocoa puffs. peeps said she was over and done. now, here she is with one of the most successful records of the year!

i don't even like her music but i'm rooting for her.

I don't even like her as a person but the media gave her a bad deal (they are treating J. Lo the same way...and it was only a few years ago when J. Lo was great...Britney Spears as well...). I was rooting for the CD but enough is enough with the boring ass R&B.

falloff I'm barely on there and I think I remeber that. I also agree that the conversations about the VMAs with friends on and off cyber space are a hellvu a lot more entertaining than the actual awards! This year, though, I won't be home to see them...I'll just miss them. Even if I could go somewhere to teach them, the next day I start student teaching...didn't they used to always be on Thursdays?

1989 had acts ranging from Paula Abdual (I also vaugely remember Redhead Julie Brown having these skits where she was hunting down Paula) to...The Cure! Now that is an awards show. Nothing against Kelly and Green Day...but come on! I also more than question a celebrity suckup like P. Diddy hosting...Chris Rock every year or nobody!

The shit gets worse every year. You know the fucking thing is gonna blow chunks.

Ever since Viacom bought the MTV networks, it has gone to shit. MTV is now the home of self serving, arrogant high school and college pukes, who care more about swilling beer and sniffing panties then being smart or have good taste in music, besides the swill MTV calls music.

lol thats funny, I was just thinking that when I saw the commercial for the new season of "My Super Sweet 16" show when they get these unknown rich girls or more like rich brats on the show to do their sweet 16 party. They beg their parents for expensive cars and the parents try to "act" like they are disciplining them when they get out hand by threatening to not but the famous Land Rover jeep or a BMW convertible that they just are dying to have. Its pathetic really.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
