Quincy Jones will do first film score in 20 years... guess for who?

... and then.. guess again eek

Oscar-winning US music legend Quincy Jones will compose his first film score in more than 20 years for a new rapper movie entitled "Get Rich or Die Tryin," the industry press said.

Famed producer and composer Jones, who won his Academy Award for the best original score for 1985's "The Color Purple" has signed on to compose the music for Paramount Picture movie starring rapper "50 Cent," whose real name is Curtis Jackson.

The movie, to be directed by Irish director Jim Sheridan, the maker of 2002's Oscar-nominated immigration movie "In America," tells the story of a street orphan who descends into the drug trade before making it as a rapper.

Jones, 72, has won seven Oscar nominations for some of the 33 film scores he had written, including those of classics such as 1967's "In the Heat of the Night," 1967's "In Cold Blood," 1969's "The Italian Job," and 1978's "The Wiz."

Quicny needs to stay away from ANY hip-hop related project.I remember buying his last album 'Q's Jook Joint' in 1995 and being really, really disappointed.Every other song featured numerous guest rappers. They totally ruined the old Brothers Johnson hit "Stomp".Why can't he act his age,and work on a compelling jazz-type project? He has this weird obsession with hip-hop,which is odd for a person his age.

He doesn't want to act his age. He wants to be young and he thinks hanging around with a bunch of no-talent nobodies makes his hip. It is really can of sad that he going to go like this.

Quincy Jones will probably be making a jazzy orchestral score, doin' what he does best, so I wouldn't complain.

Right. I guess he figures it's working for Ron Isley, so why not give it a shot.

Why? The people associated with this film are grade A (Terrence Howard, The "America" director...Even if you don't like his music (It's a bit tiresome now), he has some great people on the project, including the writer from The Saprano's...I think people should just wait to see the flick...

Samuel Jackson backed out of the project because he didn't like the idea of working with rappers. He would rather do films with real actors who have experience and are serious about their craft.50 Cent is just another popular rapper who has now decided that he is a movie star. This movie is all about ego.

Yeah, and then 50 Cent retaliated and listed a few rapper/actors who had worked with Samuel L Jackson before - but all of them had a few credible performances under their belt, so he was talking bollocks.

50 Cent also talked mess about Samuel in a recent Vibe cover story. He said that "Samuel couldn't stand the fact that people would be paying to see ME in a movie, and not him" eek

Yahoo needs to check their facts - Quincy Jones didn't win a thing for The Color Purple. As others have said, Quincy likes to think he's in the know about every aspect of the biz and he tries to keep up with the young'uns, but the fact remains that the man makes great music.

And the film - I want to dismiss it entirely, but I cannot. I saw the trailer this past weekend, and it didn't look terrible. That's the best I can say about any trailer, because they're often misleading. Jim Sheridan is a great director, who's made some really good films - In America, In the Name of the Father and My Left Foot. I don't know what would make him want to do this film, but there are a lot of people condemning it before they've seen it, much less before it's even been released! I'd rather not see 50 Cent in a movie, and I can choose not to if that's the way I see fit. But I must admit, I'm very curious about this project.
