All for You wins easily. I'm in the minority here, but I absolutely love All for You and I think that Music is easily Madonna's most overrated album.

There are only 3 songs on Music that I can say that I like a lot, while the rest is merely decent at best to bland at worst. I can honestly say that I enjoy every song on All for You. redface

Erm.....Music.

Im not overly fond of either album, but strangely i absolutely love the 3 main singles of each. All For You was the first Janet album i didn't buy. I think maybe because the reviews of it weren't favourable, and i really felt id grown out of janet a bit. She seemed to be putting out the same old ideas, and some of the outfits she sported during the prommmotional period for the record were horrendous (Yes I am that shallow).

Music however seemed so fresh and exciting. I like a lot of the songs on the album, particularly I Deserve It and Gone, however William Orbits contributions mainly left me feeling cold. Amazing and Runaway Lover were poor, a sad end to what had been a really inventive partenrship. Ultimately i ended up never really listening to the album as a whole, just skipping to the good songs.

I dont think either album will rank highly in fans favourites.

Its interesting all these posts about madonna / Janet. Their careers have followed simialr paths.

Madonna / Control - Both dance orientated albums that produced some of their most memorable hits.

Rhythm Nation / Like A Prayer - Their lanmdmark albums. The most well rounded balanced records in their catalogues.

Erotica / Janet - S.E.X.....naughty.

The Velvet Rope / Ray Of Light - Their most personal albums. Introspective and experimental.

Music / All For You - The girls got happy again. Retro Pop / Dance songs were the fashion again.

Damita Jo / America Life - Considered by many to be their Nadirs. Hardcore fans argue about the merits of each, yet critics and the public alike gave both a big No-No.

What next????? According to reports, both are going back to their roots, recording great dance music again. WE CAN ONLY HOPE.

co-Music for my vote. nod

"Don't Tell Me" is one of the decade's most adventurous pop singles. The sound of it is daring, funky, unique, melodic, and memorable.

Both also heavily affected by right wing politics and the media. They weren't that bad but the right wing media made up it's mind before they came out.

now you're blaming the "right wing media" for both records being flops in the US? I suppose it had nothing to do with awful choices for debut singles or debut video choices that were just as bad? by the way, the people i know that do not like these records are liberals who don't agree with the supposed "right wing media" yet they still didn't like the cds. heck, i'm a registered republican and LOVE both cds.

i'd suggest designing another hypothesis because this one has way too many holes.

Neither CD is great (nor were the CDs before them which did rather well!) but you have to admit that both artists were put (or put themseleves) in the scope of the right wing. For Janet, it was sex and boobgate. The right wing media said right away that it was a publcity stunt to get attention for the album and that it worked since it peaked at 2.....um, but her last CD hit number one? They painted it as if Janet hadn't had a hit in years (citing the fact that she preformed "Rythmn Nation"...but didn't she also perform her last number one hit from a few years back? And who refuses to show Janet's new video and who refuses to play her new song?

"American Life" suffered because Madonna made the mistake of questioning the war and the public didn't even get a chance to respond but the "liberal" media did! The media made up it's mind. Supposedly liberal radio refused to play the first single even though it was much better than "Die Another Day", a top ten hit. And the video? If Madonna hadn't pulled it, it wouldn't have been played anyway....MTV basically said they weren't going to play it. The right wing shows had a field day with her and most people hadn't even heard the song...they only saw the clips O'Reily would show them?

In both cases the media had made it's mind and the public didn't get a chance to hear the first two singles. Anyone that folllowed the reactions by the press would agree.
