BET needs a really big make-over. I like everyone’s ideas on new original programming. We need our own version of Behind the Music (Which BET had a couple of years ago; Journey in Black anyone) and a couple of more programming. Also run reruns of classic black sitcoms daily. Here is a schedule that could help out the channel.

Week Day Afternoons / Evenings: everything is Monday through Friday unless stated.

5:00 - BET on JAZZ

6:00 - Hey Monie!

6:30 - The Jackson 5ive Show (The Cartoon Series)

7:00 - Work-Out Show

7:30 - Cooking Show

8:00 - Different World

8:30 - Webster

9:00 - The Center

10:00 - The Jeffersons

10:30 - What’s Happening!

11:00 - Videos (A Mix of videos from everyone old and new from 80’s Funk to 2000’s hip-hop, mix it all together. Play a Cameo video followed by Common followed by Van Hunt followed by Lenny Kravitz followed by Jodey Waltley.)

1:00 - Black daytime talk show.

2:00 - Video Soul (Showing today's top R&B and Soul videos)

3:00 - Rap City (Showing today's top Rap and Hip-Hop videos)

4:00 - Family Matters

4:30 - Bring back a Teen Summit type show. Something that addresses the issues of the day from a young black perspective.

5:00 - The New 106 & Park

6:30 - BET Style

7:00 to 8:30 - Keep this two hour block open for original programming besides Monday and Friday for The BET Blackbuster Movie.

Tues

7:00 - Madd Sports

8:30 - Reality Show (Surreal Life type with former black stars including Foster Sylvers, Antonio Fargus, Jimmy Walker, LaToya Jackson, Kim Fields, Jamie Foxworth, Holly Robinson Pete and Suge Knight)

8:00 - Coming To The Stage

8:30 - BET Artist Spotlight (One artist is spotlighted by Videos and archive footage from past BET shows)

Wed

7:00 - Access Granted

7:30 - Sketch Comedy/Improv Show

8:00 - Comic-View

Thurs

7:00 - Journeys in Black

8:00 - Live hosted by Donnie Simpson (Every week have one artist/group old or new perform and have interviews with him/her)

9:00 - Martin

9:30 - Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper

10:00 - A Black Talk Show (If D.L. Hughley can get one on CC, bring in another top black comic. Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin or someone like that.)

11:00 - BET News.

11:30 - In Living Color

12:00 - Classic Comic-View (Not the stuff they are showing now a days from 2-3 years ago; Put D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer, Ricky Smiley when they were in their prime)

1:00 - Grown Folks Music

2:00 - Classic Video Soul

3:00 - Classic Video Vibrations

4:00 - Sports

lol I used to say the same thing - Her show was alot more enjoyable than Martha's she has a wonderful personality I didn't get that crazy killer thing from her -- sadly I havn't seen the show in a couple of months but her Restaurants in Manhattan, DC, Miami, and the Hamptons are doing very very well!

They should have a show called, 'white people are funny.' The show can be a game show, where white people have to be slaves for differing groups of black families, for a period of five months. Whoever is the best slave wins a trip to the Apollo, to host Showtime.

After reading through all the suggestions so far this is what I think.

Old sitcoms are nice but shouldn't take up a majority of the day. Maybe a few hours in the morning and that's it. I don't want BET turning into a 'Black TV Land'.

Likewise old videos should be limited to perhaps after the news at night. I think the show 'Grown Folks Music' is on currently like, half an hour a week or something. An hour a day should be the max. It's good to school younger people on older music, but don't flood them with it or they will be turned off.

BET really needs more original programming. How come other networks like HBO, FX and Showtime can create Emmy award-winning series and BET can't? Quality original series and movies for prime time airing is a must.

Expand the playlist of the music videos currently being shown. Instead of showing every G-Unit related video in a row, show some not so overplayed videos by up and comming and urban alternative artists. I know they are out there.

BET news should be on more than once a day. Other networks have news reports in the early morning, midday, early evening and then at 11pm. Educate the audience about what's going on in the community, the country and the world.

Yes! Good and expensive -- I went to the one in Union Station DC for my birthday and I thought the prices were a little ridiculous but it is a 5 star restaurant so I guess the prices were normal -- I'm cheap! lol boxed

BET needs to be about more than hiphop and r&b videos. It needs more original programming other than video shows.

I would love to see Cornell West and Michael Eric Dyson with a weekly talk show.

A Teen Summit show needs to be added. I grew up on that show.

I would like BET to show more independent films by black film makers.

There should be a show called Unsigned Hype where unsigned artists come to be perform and be discovered.

There needs to be a latenight show on BET @ 11:30pm.

I want to see more live concerts by a variety of artists on BET. Everyday there should be a new artist live in concert.

LOL- I love Georgetown-- it's DC's answer to Greenwich Village, a little ghetto but I've always been an alternative type of chick.

Well, Bet does have thier BET Jazz Channel which is ok. Shit, I wish they's show more live concerts and less Latin videos. I don't mean no disrespect but they keep showing the same damn concerts over and over again .

I agree with you Legsbaby, but BET Jazz is (slowly) starting to show some new stuff. I saw a cool docu on George Duke, a "Knitting Factory" concert with guitarist Jean-Paul Bourelly (and I was mad that I didn''t have a VHS tape to get it), and a "Mike's World" special w/ Herbie, Marcus Miller, and Stanley Clarke. So BET Jazz is doing a little better.
