Ray of Light is a good album, but she tried far to hard on this record to create some sort of new sound, this attempt failed because she simply copied other stuff people had being doing for years. Some of the songs were really good tho

The Velvet Rope is one of the best albums of the 90s, its rich, humble, sexual, it has all the elements of RnB music at the time and more. The production didnt try to break new ground, but the material, the lyrics were personal and imo a musical therapy session. "Together Again" was such a massive hit, remained in the charts in the UK for 6 mnths.

MY vote The Velvet Rope

Together Again spent 4 months on the UK charts (maybe you're thinking of the airplay-only charts?). It spent 46 weeks on the Hot 100, though.

"together again" indeed was a huge hit in UK. By far her biggest. Not surprising considering how euro cheesy it sounded.

That's The Way Love Goes is her biggest hit in the UK. All For You was also a bigger hit than Together Again.

Yeah but in terms of airplay etc, beleive me "together again" was everywhere and stayed everywhere for a year or so more, which the others didn't. It had the biggest impact.

Mmm hmm, but since airplay doesn't count in the UK singles charts..... wink

Yeah I see ur point of view as u wern't in UK at the time (obviously). "together again" was made for europe and UK I feel. After all, janet has never been that big outside of US, so it was a attempt to get some momemtum maybe for "velvet rope". She was of course Famous, but not huge.

I'd have to say "Velvet Rope" because I loved it in it's entirety. There were only select songs on "Ray of Light" that I enjoyed. shrug

i don't know the numbers but i'm fairly sure that u2's POP was a commercial success. i know it was panned by critics and purists alike, but it was electronic europop at its finest and i'm sure it sold millions of copies. how do we know this record didn't influence these artists? how are we coming to a conclusion that it was madonna who did the influencing? george michael is a european artist...i doubt madonna's attempts at europop influenced him anymore than ALL of the music around him. lol the same goes for kylie minogue. and i still don't here any ray of light influence in britney's in the zone cd.

I still don't see "Pop" as their big electronica breakthrough. It's not even that electronic outside of "Mofo" and "Discotheque". "Zooropa" and "Passengers" are far more electronic, experimental and trippy.

yeah, you're definitely right. i supposei meant more of that whole pop era. nobody really refers to it as the zooropa era though that would be more accurate.
