That said, i remember the first time they played Got Till Its Gone on the mTV awards, and i fucking flipped. Having played "janet" for years, i was eagerely anticipating her return, and i thought both the video and song were absolutely brilliant - one of the best uses / samples of another song done in years.

Some of you haven't given Dream Street a chance. I really like it!

Ray of Light is the first Madonna cd that I ever bought, but The Velvet Rope is a better.

I just feel that Madonna copies "trends" too much. Plus the bottom line is that I'm more of fan of Janet's music coz it's more R&B influenced than Madonna's that seems to be more pop.

this record just does things to my mind. ray of light is great, no doubt, and it may be madge's best record (though i think like a prayer takes that spot) but janet's velvet rope is just fantastic. maybe i just can't relate to ray of light. the velvet rope, however, has a lot of material that i understand from my own personal experiences which gives it a stronger connection.

besides, musically speaking, the velvet rope is amazing. it still doesn't sound dated to my ears which is something i can't really say for ray of light, music, and american life.

loved loved loved TVR when it came out. but as time goes on, it's simply remembered (at least to me) as the 1997 update of a more depressing "janet." album. still, it's great. and miles ahead of the other 2 "janet."-retreads she's put out since.


ROL on the other hand.... well, it revolutionized the top 40 style of pop / dance-pop.
