"C'est La Vie" was the jam, but Robbie was a little too whiny for me.
Couple Jane's one-woman-show, Stevie/Prince/Lenny-type production style and her follow-up to that debut ("All I Do" is the JAM, mind you), I gotta go with Ms. Child. She bad.

Jane Child!
She's had three albums up through the year 2002, but her first was the best. I love all these songs... 1. Welcome to the Real World 2. I Got News for You 3. Don't Let It Get to You 4. Don't Wanna Fall in Love 5. You're My Religion Now 6. Hey Mr. Jones 7. Biology 8. DS 21 9. World Lullabye trivia: Robbie Nevil wrote a song or two for Vanity's Skin on Skin album [Edited 7/20/05 21:25pm]

I am sorry but I have to go with Robbie. He had more jams like C'est La Vie,Dominoes. The only thing that made Jane's ass fly was when Teddy Riley hooked her ass up with a fly ass remix for I Don't Want To Fall In Love.

Nah. Teddy's remix was good, but the original was plenty good on its own.

Nah. Teddy's remix was good, but the original was plenty good on its own. No I sorry but the remix was fly as hell and there is no denying it. Otherwise, her career would've just stayed localized in Canada if it wasn't for Teddy. Teddy's remix allowed her single to be a crossover into not only the Pop Charts, but the Dance, and Urban Contemporary. Whereas with Robbie, his stuff was naturally funky. So, he didn't need no damn remix to make his stuff funky. Instantly, his songs charted on Pop and Urban Contemporary without a damn remix unlike Jane's faking the funk ass.

Don't worry Anxiety, the Org Funkologist is just getting starting. I take the Funk seriously at the org. "I Don't Want My Funk Stepped On."

Jane Child, of course. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I'm gonna go with Robbie Nevil though C'est la vie is the only song of his that I know. It was funkier. Whatever happened to him?

I thought Jane Child was going to be huge. "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" was a great song to play. Great synth solo.
We were playing up in Vancouver at that time and she and Alannah Myles were a big deal. Another kewl band was the "Dan Reed Network" and a guy named Kevin Paige had some kewl music out. [Edited 7/21/05 1:58am]

The original version of the song was a hit on pop stations, not Teddy's remix. I don't recall ever hearing the Teddy mix on pop radio, but I heard it some on R&B stations. Teddy didn't bring her popularity out of Canada. And I didn't say the remix wasn't good. I said the original version was good all by itself.

It was so successful that her label rereleased her first single "Welcome To The Real World", with a similarly funked up remix by Jam & Lewis.

Robbie had more hits, but I never liked any of them. I have Jane Child's first CD and three 12" singles so she gets my vote.

Exactly. That remix gave her crossover success

At the end of the day, if it wasn't for the Teddy remix, she wouldn't have sold as many records and became an instant crossover artist period. So you can try to skirt around the issue if you want to but the truth is the truth.

It's the safer blander pick of the two but I dug Nevil's easy pop hit. Wot's It To Ya, Dominoes and C'est La Vie were harmless enough coming out of my radio, just nice late 80's tunes to hum along with. I never really dug Jane Child but I din't try very hard either. She's probably brilliant. All good things they say never last...
