I can't stand rap music. especially gangsta rap , 2pac did nothing but further criminalize black men with that "thug life" bullhit. even when he was with Death Row records(the name alone implies...) he waz a poor influence. his music left nothing but a legacy of crime + drugs + violence. call him a poet if u wish.... i agree with u about that thug shit. i hate it too. but his downfall was on deathrow. all the shit gangsterism all that got bigger when he got on DR. i like pac tho..he's not like most rappers, he raps about things that either i can relate to or things that are real. yea he rapped about money, jewels, hoes etc..but he also rapped about the struggle. bein poor. teen preg. his momma. people like him cuz he touches people. makes them feel something good, most rappers u listen to u don't feel good cuz 90% of their raps is talkin bout shit u aint got and shit u aint gon have Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

2pacalypse was an incredible album. Digital Underground was playful and fun, 2pac was in the picture. But when he stepped forward and mixed his more harsh, confrontational lyrics/delivery against their beats, it was amazing.

A) I rank 2pac #3 on my list of all-time best rap artist! B) Suggested Listening: The first 3 albums represent THE Real 2pac, a rap artist with a rap song for all kinds of people. And these albums cover a lot of subject matters.

I agree that he is/was overrated (though I do not generally like that term), but he was one of the best to come out of the 90s. His downfall was his association with Suge Knight. He wasn't always "thugged out."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The only reason I never was a fan of 2pac was his association with Death row and excessive need to prove he was gangsta, even if there was a tiny bit of realness to him, his whole act seemed way too phony to me. The only impressive thing about him was his work ethic, proven by the continuous release of new ( old ) material.
What I think sold his persona and put him on the pedestal he had was his acting in the movie [b] JUICE [b], people bought that for all it was worth. I'm not to keen with the reverence he still receives, but since the street mentality is to hold their heroes up no matter how bad they were, his name and legacy will never die. Fair enough people can say he was overrated , your feelings i respect that,.
but i get upset when they picture him as a Thugged out Gangsta Rapper.... in truth Pac rarely made Gangsta Rap tracks, i rather remember pac for being the most Poetic and Emotional Rapper out there.. I mean he was the first musical artist to write a song about his mother and mothers every where, to be so deep and real to say "Even though You were a Crack Feind Mama, You'll always be my Black Queen Mama." you cant get much personal and deeper then that on a record.. from only god can judge me "They Say its the White man i should fear, but its my own kind doing the killing here" A man who wasnt afraid to state his OWN opinon. from letter to my unborn "I got shot 5 times and am still breathin, living proof theres a god if you need a reason." this wasnt about being HARD and macho like fiddy but he was a spritual man who believed in fate.. fair enough he turned immature and a big mouth when he turned to Deathrow, played up to the cameras, the man almost had his life taken away from him who he believed to be betrayed by his friends. but i truly believe he wanted to leave that persona behind him. also the man was a typical Gemini too. i mean he was only 25, and he did so much and been through so much in his time, How many 25 year olds with that much talent have managed to keep a straight head. i cant remember his Exact Quote, but he did say Please dont judge me on one chapter or page of my life, take into account of everything i been through and judge me for that. i think tupac is given props for his lyrics and biggie for his delivery. Pac actually was a good lyricist.
I think a person who doesn't like rap saying they don't like tupac is sorta silly. You don't like the music period so why would anyone expect you to like one of the artist from the genre. Also...people don't still love Pac for all the violence of the thug life stuff but the fact that he was good (period) as a writer/rapper. The same way people give love to NWA and yet don't care for the violence.

I just pulled out a 2Pac album the other day and it just hit me. Pac was one of the greatest because he had this way of making you feel for him and give him the benefit of the doubt even when he was rapping about killing, money, and hoes.
Had he lived, I think he would have grown up and become a leader the black community could have rallied behind, but I spose now we'll never know. RIP Pac.

He was definately overrated. All he did was "talk" over a boring ass midtempo beat and a sampled record. The Egyptian Lover was definately one of the baddest rappers out there. He had fast jams for the dance floor, many of which were songs made from scratch without samples. Tupac was not even worthy of wiping The Egyptian Lover's ass. Andy is a four letter word.

And the interesting part is that E.L. never look his rhyme skills too seriously. His professional ego want based on making THE Music for the people so they can be the ones shaking their asses at the clubs! All of his tracks were built from the ground up with synths (mostly from Roland & Yamaha) & drum machines (Roland TR-808 & TR-909). No samplers whatsoever!

This is a man who took a right turn while everyone was headin left.. its a damn shame rap music dont have more like him, cause r&b and hip hop has never suffered as bad as it has currently (for me at least) 2pacs vision was plain and simple, he spoke his truth, and lyrically and vocally he spoke it well.. Best flow i've ever heard from a rap artist. I can feel his anger and his emotion, he is the entire reason I have hope for that type of music.. because of him there is actually a chance of some decent music weeding through the upmost terrible shit to become so popular. I despise rap, but I like Tupac. He was genuine in his songs and his lyrics could be thought provoking. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
