The Stylistics are indeed doing well on those "Super Oldies" shows, but they are feuding with their original lead singer Russell Thompkins Jr.He is pissed at them, and has said that he will never perform with them again. They're touring with a guy who sounds alot like Russell.Meanwhile,Russell is touring with his own version of the group, called Russell Thompkins and the New Stylistics...lol...what a mess. well Russell's voice isn't what it used to be--the guy that replaced him, Harold "Eban" Brown, is a dead ringer for vintage Thompkins, voice wise. Russell got the short end of the stick on this one, because he's basically fronting a cover band. Whereas the Stylistics are performing in arenas and theatres, the New Stylistics are performing at halls and caberets. Ok so, that's what's up with the group.[/quote] I wonder what their feud is all about? I saw The Stylistics in 1996,and Russell was still in the group. He sounded amazing...just like on the old records. But then he got sick for awhile, and had to leave the group.Did the guys hire a replacement in his absence? Could that be the reason for the hostility?

Could that be the reason for the hostility? you can check out a pretty long radio interview from 2004 with russell thompkins on this link--he sounds like a nice guy, but you can tell he's bitter as hell about the split. you can hear 5 or 6 full length songs from his cd, " a matter of style " including "no one in the world", "jealousy" and "nothing in the world" "people make the world go round" and " foolish". The voice sounds still sounds pretty good but it sounds like his backing tracks were done on casio-- listen out for the caller who mentions Prince one caller asks him if his "replacement" is related to him, and you can hear the bitterness in his voice. he says "I AM THE STYLISTICS"... http://www.mauricewatts.c...rview.html [Edited 7/13/05 5:55am] [Edited 7/13/05 5:59am] [Edited 7/13/05 6:02am] you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

There will never be groups like that now a days that were dominating radio in the late 60's til' the 70's. They just don't have the soul in them. Also suprised nobody metioned the Enchantment with Gloria, The Manhattans, The Dells, or the Intruders. One bsad thing abou all of this is that The Moments, Stylisticas and Delphonics will most likely not make it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I wanna pick up The Stylistics Greatest Hits again. I just thought that their ballads were a little more syrupy than The Moments and Delfonics songs...which had a little more depth. Though watching them sing live is very good. None of the greatest hits do justice to their various sounds. I wished the Greatest Hits included 'Hurry Up This Way Again'. I LOVE that song. It wasn't until I came across a 3-cd set at Amoeba that I think was an import but it was their releases from the late 70's or just the early-mid-80's. For some reason I thought they had a box set. If not, they should definitely have one. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Sometimes you can you find rare and imported albums mixed in with regular US releases. Actually it is listed on Amazon. It's the combination of 'Hurry Up This Way Again,' 'Closer Than Close' and '1984' packaged as a 3-cd set. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

1. The Stylistics 2. Blue Magic 3. The Delfonics 4. The Moments Yep, Blue Magic was tough also. Can't say who's best cuz they're all great for different reasons. Everyone was bringing something cool to the table. The Stylistics and Blue Magic sound very similar. When I bought The Stylistics Greatest Hits, I was pissed because "Sideshow" and "Start To Stop" weren't on it. Then I realized it was Blue Magic and bought their greatest hits also.
