my sugar water festival review just got home a little while ago.from the show here in baltimore/washington dc..all i can say is....WOW! if this tour is coming anywhere near you, go!
floetry's set was about 20 minutes..the crowd was kinda lukewarm to them until they broke out the GO-GO funk (Sardines and Pork and Beans), and threw in some reggae too. 7.5 Queen Latifah's set was the second strongest...the girl can really sing--but she also went old school hip hop too, mixing it up nicely. she looked really good and sounded great 9.0 Jill Scott's set was pretty good--i'm not a big JS fan, and she didn't really do anything to make me change my mind about that. but the crowd was really into her set, and she did an even amount of songs from her first and second cd's--8.5 Erykah Badu's set was the best--she was in great voice and looked great. it was very similar to the quality to the baduizm live cd--9.5 all three ladies opened the show together with a cover of the Jones Girls Nights over Egypt and closed it together with a nice Luther Vandross song. of note: the show was WAAAAY oversold! one police officer said the crowd was about 20,000, even though the capacity is far below that. they sold too many lawn seats and a lot of people had to stand the whole concert. vinnie from Naughty By Nature was there doing some kind of interviews, so i'm thinking this is gonna be released on DVD after the tour is over...nobody really paid him any attention though, and he was at the stand eating chicken fingers when we were leaving GO SEE THIS SHOW!! you look better on your facebook page than you do in person | |
