Why do some people hate The Black Eyed Peas so much?

What the hell did they do so wrong to deserve getting bash?

It's not the fault of will.i.am (The REAL band leader/producer) for changing his production sound for the better!

It's not the fault of Taboo & Apl de Ap (rap vocals/dancers) for dancing so much at their live shows & video. Nor is it their fault for writing lyrics and busting rhyme skills that matters from the heart & mind.

And finally, it's not Fergie (singing vocals) fault for looking so damn good!!! She has the body & the vocals. And she is a real team player. She give the band a lot of hope to stay in the game and try to make hip-hop/rap fun again.

I want all of you haters to admit it:

Fergie is the main reason why you hate this rap group/band so much! In fact, some of you haters might have been fans of this group when it was only the 3 guys at the time with only underground success....

Why ask why? You seem to have all the answers. You seem to think that their songs are better now because of Fergie. You are baiting in such a way that leads to you wanting people to point the finger at the "white girl" and blame her. I gotta be honest, I expected her to be solo by now and the Black Eyed Peas to be on their way to hip-hop history like the Beatnuts and Das EFX.
The last time I saw BEP was pre-Fergie. They toured with a band instead of just a DJ, which was impressive. I liked some of the material (That's The Joint, That's The Jam, etc.). They were headed in the direction they are in now since half of their material live was hip-hop and some was very watery pop. For those (like you) who tend to think they are better for being more pop-ish; that's fine. I was hoping they would go more the direction of Slum Village and drop songs like "Tainted" and move towards a progressive hip-hop thing, but alias they didn't. Doesn't matter to me as I'm not buying their CDs anyway. It just seemed that they had the potential to help move hip hop in a different direction instead of becoming commercialized fluff. Oh well, somebody's gotta do it. May as well be these jokers. I think they will realize the error of their ways once Fergie gets offered a large enough deal, goes solo and leaves their asses as just a sideroad on her path to stardom and they look around and realize that they lost their core audience of underground hip-hop fans and have to figure out ways to diversify their funds to keep from going broke because they can't even give away a record anymore...but that's just what I think. They've crossed the line from being progressive to being corny. As soon as their popularity dies down, they are probably history anyway (except for Fergie, who will move forward).

highfive Once Again BK Baby, you have broken it all the way down. Some of these folks out here don't realize that when the blackeye Peas were underground that they were doing real music instead of the Pop thowaway bullshit their doing now with Fergie. I am glad that you eloqently pointed this out.

I never heard of them before Where is the love. Then to my dismay it was number 1 for about 25 years. They have the most annoying music and lead singer. Just when I thought it was safe to listen to commercial radio.. don't phunk with my heart comes out to distress my earholes. Ouch.

I really can't see what is good about them. And the vid seems to rip of 'Hey Ya' and that really annoyed me

The only thing that is ok about this band are Fergie's vocals IMHO;
Otherwise (songwriting, raps, production & so on...), it just sucks ass.
Oh yeah, they also use real musicians when they perform live, too bad the songs are ... well, you know the word confused
They're definitly NOT a HipHop band, this shit is pop.

Co-sign.

My main gripe with the BEP is that they were a great Hip Hop act, whom once they released Elephunk, they sold out.

Take a listen to that album, the amount of lyrical stealing from De La Soul's Bahloon Mind State is staggering. They bite from Ego Trippin' and everything. To pay homage is one thing, but a 16 year old spinning that record would have no idea the amount of blantant copying mixed in2 their watered down hip pop.

One thing they didn't take from De La though was the repeated lyric: "It Might Blow Up, But It Won't Go POP!", but there was a reason 4 that though wink

Their musical style sucks. Their sh*t is boring,
Maybe if they took their music in another direction, it would be more bearable.

"Behind the Front" and "Bridging the Gap" are two great albums.

Since Fergie joined the band, they have become nothing but fluff and will become victims of their commercial success.

I have a lot of respect for Will I AM, and like his solo stuff from the "Lost Change" soundtrack.

I think that the last two albums are total crap, except for "Like That" with Cee Lo and Q Tip on the Monkey Business album. That song sounds like what the peas used to represent, plus, I love Tip and Lo.

there are just so many things wrong this group. sure, they make some ok pop tunes but what is so special about that? they were a cool group when they toured with de la soul back in 2000 but they've taken too many steps in the wrong direction. their music is about fashion, fun, and charts. nothing wrong with that - hell, i love pop music just as much as the next guy - but if you're gonna play that game you better be really good if you're gonna expect/desire respect. the black eyed peas just aren't that good. its only a matter of time before their name follows phrases like "hey, remember..." and "whatever happened to..."

I dont hate BEP, nor do I really like them either, but they did definately sell out though.

When they first started, they were on some real authentic hiphop shit (like Roots, Slum Village, Jurassic 5, etc.), which I will admit these days wont always get the bills paid. All of that changed with the Elephunk album - they got some the Village People-meets-hip hop shit and just went commercial pop musically. They went from breakdancing to having this white girl shake her ass. Fergie pretty much outshines everybody else; she's like the lead singer/dancer and the other three guys are her backup who do the music even though they rap alot. But overall its more like Fergie and The Black Eye Peas now.

I remember they acutally said once in an interview when fans see them, they mainly rushed up to Fergie. LOL! biggrin

But I aint mad, I dont hate...I understand it is, getcha money.
