I was never a huge fan of Tupac, but there is no denying his talent. He was a great writer."Hail Mary" is one of the few rap songs from the 90s that I like.

He was under rated when he was alive, over rated when he died. a true artist!

Tupac wasn't the greatest rapper ever(IMO, it's Chuck D), but he's in my top 10.

many consider him to be the greatest rapper of all time, but quite frankly i really don't see what's so great about his music. some of u might argue that he told the "real story of the streets" ( rolleyes ) but get past the cursing, and all that gangsta rap bullshit and there really is nothing there. the greatest rapper of all time? he waz extremely overated disbelief disbelief disbelief

I wonder what song or album of tupac did you hear that brought you to this conclusion.
1 over Jordan...the greatest since

2Pac was and to this day still is the greatest rapper/lyricst and if all he did was, as someone put it, talk over a beat. So what, the Beatles aint nothing but the Back Street Boys, 98 Degree, New Kids on The Block, etc. plugedin.

Fuck all y'all, Pac was dope! He may not have been THE BEST, but I'd definitely rank him as one of the best MC's. How a muthafucka that don't even like rap music gonna comment on the skills of any rapper?? hammer

To a point people do pump him up a LOT b/c he's dead, but Pac's flow was NICE. PLEEZE neutral

thumbs up!

Robert Christgau would agree. He really makes a case with this review:

"Me Against the World [Interscope, 1995]
Tough-guy sentimentality is an old story in American culture, but self-pity this rank is usually reserved for teen romances and tales of brave avant-gardists callously rejected by the mass media. His I-love-Mom rings true because Mom was no saint, and his respect for old G's seems genuine, probably because they told him how smart he was. But whether the metaphor be dead homies or suicide threat, the subtext of his persecution complex is his self-regard. What's doubly galling is that these are essential hip hop themes--as Ice Cube and B.I.G. have made all too vivid, it is persecution that induces young black men to kill each other and themselves. That such themes should rise to the top of the charts with this witless exponent of famous-for-being-famous is why pop fans decry the mass media. C+"
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I generally don't like rap either, but Tupac was the exception to me, because his lyrics and subjects were above the "money, cars, hoes," crap you get today... What I couldn't understand is what people saw in Biggie.... Slurred delivery with juvenile lyrics.... Even his name was stolen!

Yes, their early stuff was more pop-oriented, and yes, some of it was bubble gum. But even then it was better than anything the New Kids did. And she/he didn't say their early stuff - he said "the Beatles aint nothing but..." Now you hush up. mad

As crazy as the last part sounds, I will go along with it. Because he's the closest that this generation of black Americans has to a Malcolm X or MLK. It's sad but true.
