Don't go see Alanis Morrissette unless

...you think you are the most messed-up person in the world and are hoping to see someone even more screwed up than you are so you won't feel so bad about yourself.

Man, was she DEPRESSING. Crap, I had never really listened to her songs except for the dirty ones. My bad.

And while I'm ranting, she had some guy named Jason Mraz open up for her. For thirty minutes, I thought he was a joke - some kind of adult Wiggle gone even more wimpish. Then I found out he actually is a recorded artist with songs that people have spent real money on.

Yeah Alanis isn't that great of a performer IMO.
And she doesn't have a lot of worthy material to perform.

Yeah, and he recently did a nude photoshoot for some magazine. WTF?! That's like Playboy asking Estelle Getty to be their next centerfold.

Ok, yeah, bad analogy. I should have chosen a geeky white girl for comparison. To me, Jason Mraz looks like someone who's been locked in his mother's basement for the past 25 years.

Does she still pace the stage a lot? That grew tiresome quickly, when I saw her in '01.

Saw her live a week after I saw Michael Jackson and she was waaay better. She had Taylor Hawkins on drums, who's now in Foo Fighters and she was excellent. I remember the only flat part of the show was her 'new songs'.

1. I dumped on Jason Mraz because he was part of the whole nightmare. I had never seen Alanis Morrissette before, and all I knew about her musically was that I loved the rock songs on "Jagged Little Pill". The songs that stuck with me had lines that talked about Alanis going down on her lover in a theatre, getting wined, dined and 69'ed, etc. So when this adult Wiggle opened the show, I thought, "Crap. Either Alanis doesn't know that she hired some guy who sings Barney the Dinosaur songs for adults, or I'm not going to be seeing the Alanis who asks her lover if he thinks of her when he's boinking other chicks".

2. She only paced about on one song, but it was annoying. My wife said she thinks Alanis is a major manic-compulsive, and I think she's right.

Jagged Little Pill was excellent. One good song after another. Everything she's down since then is downright boring.

I've never seen her live, but I do like the song "21 Things I Want In A Lover". Plus, she was on "Curb Your Enthusiasm"; that's gotta count for something.

Jason Mraz, I like "You And I Both". But dude, keep yer clothes on.
