and there is a sad element to it, but it sounds positive to me. bittersweet at the very least. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

I believe a lot of it has to do with the pathos that's a part of Kermit's voice, the sound of the banjo. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. One of my favorite parts of the Muppet Movie. don't think i even saw the movie until i was in my teens. i just remember sitting in the corner of our living room next to the outlet with my little fisher price tape player listening to this song over and over. first song i ever knew, i think. first one i was ever obssessed with for sure (first of many). My room-mate in Uni used to sing this to me.
I was in the closet; he was captain of the rugby team. Do you think he was trying to make me his Miss Piggy??

Awww.
I love Jim Henson characters. I used to watch "The Muppets Take Manhattan" all the time on the old Disney Channel.

Right up there with It's Not Easy Being Green
It's not easy being green It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things And people tend to pass you over 'Cause you're not standing out Like flashy sparkles in the water Or stars in the sky But green's the color of spring And green can be cool and friendly-like And green can be big like a mountain Or important like a river Or tall like a tree When green is all there is to be It could make you wonder why But why wonder why wonder I am green, and it'll do fine It's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be

Something about nearly every project Jim Henson was involved in had a very bittersweet feel to it. The Muppets, Sesame Street, The Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth, and everthing else. It was easy to fall in love with and really coonect with his characters; to pretend they were real. In many ways, Henson's puppets were more "human" than many actual human characters are.
Things haven't been the same since he passed away. With the exception of the newest Muppet Christmas special, which made me cry, everything I can recall seing since his death has just been happy and one-dimensional. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

i just typed this looooong response talking about my love of this song and all things Henson...about my DVD collection of Movies & Programs that had Henson involvement (like the "StoryTeller"), the fact that I still get caught watching Sesame Street hoping to see old clips (heheh some husbands get caught by their wife watching porn...i get caught watching puppets), my No Strings Attached book about Jims work, about my collection of Kermit & Grover dolls.....i mean ACTION FIGURES...heheh...
i wrote this long thing about how i, as a grown man working at an office, first heard the news that Jim henson had died, I started choking up right there at work. Had to fight them damn tears back...it really felt like a lifelong freind had passed. anyway..i wrote this long post hit 'post response' only to realize i hadn't logged in and when i hit 'back' everything i had written was wiped out...gone. ah well.. suffice to say...for family movie night tonight i will be picking the film that my wife & kids watch...and it'll be the Muppet Movie for sure.

Ray Charles' version of It's Not Easy Being Green is classic. YES!!! I saw a special about the composer who wrote it (don't remember his name, but he's totally famous) and he said he knew he had reached his zenith when Ray Charles did a cover of that song, that it really blew his mind. I saw Ray Charles' performance of it and it was entirely emotional.

From the first little strums of the banjo...I lose it.
I love the song, but it makes me so damn sad...can't listen to it anymore. It's one of the few songs that really make me cry.
