I absolutely LOVE that album "WAR" by U2. The whole sound of that album IMO is timeless. It has that pure 80's sound w/o the "cheese" of the 80's. (well except for the "Refugee" song..LOL)...side 1 is PURE excellent and while side 2 isnt as grand as side 1, side 2 has some excellent moments (i.e. "Surreneder","2 Hearts Beating As One") anyone else feeling the album "WAR" by U2?

War is U2's first solid album; starts off strong and doesn't let up until '40'. Those piano chords at the beginning of New Years Day still give me chills. This was the album where U2 started to develop and expand their sound. War was the last time they'd sound this young and angry.

War and the live album that followed it, Under A Blood Red Sky, are pretty much the pinnacle of that part of U2's career, so bear in mind that Boy and October are less focused, confident and consistent than War, but they're good albums and have some great songs between them.
Boy is probably the better of the two, as October is a little more dated, and was always the more vague and unfocussed album. October also suffers from being a tad po-faced, angling towards preachy.


You should be able to find them very cheap, too, so it shouldn't break the bank to invest in them.

I personally ADORE "Boy". I might even like it better than "War". The sound is so driving and exciting and full of youthful energy. And there are so many songs I love on there - I Will Follow, Out of Control, Twilight, An Cat Dubh, A Day Without Me, Electric Co., hell all of it really. I think it's a thoroughly solid debut and a very good companion to "War". "October" on the other hand is the last U2 album you should pick up. Not very good.
