Berlin Covers "Erotic City" Do you remember sultry/sexy dance band Berlin from the 80's? Their biggest hit was "Take My Breath Away" from the 'Top Gun' soundtrack, but they made a lot of synth-driven dance tunes.
ANYWAY, lead singer Terri Nunn has put together yet another incarnation of the band and has just released "4Play" July 5th. It features a number of cover songs, most notably: "Fashion" from David Bowie and "Never Let Me Down Again" from Depeche Mode. But, of interest to us here at the org is her version of "Erotic City." Never one to complain about the vocal talents of Terri Nunn, I have to say she sounds TERRIfic... (sorry for the play on words)! Her voice doesn't seem to age and her dedication to a lyric always comes across. However, please listen for yourself at their website. It is something like www.berlinpage.com and is also the only place (for now) you can buy the latest release. You can sample the songs by clicking on the "media" link. With all that said, I do have to say - however - that the male vocalists she has with her now are nowhere near as good as the good ol' days. In fact, her version of "Erotic City" is kind of tainted because of the male vocals. Give it a listen and post your thoughts below. Thanks!

Well, not the "Dope Show" cover.
All of these tracks sound like goth synthpop to me.

Oh man, I love some Berlin! They rock. Terri Nunn is great! I would love to get a copy of this cd. I heard the samples and i'm happy to hear they're going back to their synth roots.

The little snippet was good, but it sounds too synthy, keyboards and computerish. But I can't fault that since that was the main style of the original lineup. Jeux Sans Frontiers

That's awesome! I love Berlin and if I'm ever in a band, I want to do a cover of "The Metro!" I just saw them about 2 years ago too!! Thanks for the info! Woo Hoo! "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare
