They're both among the very best song writers the world has ever been blessed with. John is my fave of the two, tho'.

Why? Because its like fighting over two vegetables.. their both good for you but you probably prefer one over the other due to taste... Plus, I think its fucking rediculous for someone to judge McCartney's solo material AFTER lennon died simply due to the fact that Lennon never got the chance to prolong his career in music, and we DONT know how it would have turned out... Macca gets the least credit in a stupid thread as this.. [Edited 6/23/05 8:59am]

blackbob said: mccartney was clearly the better musician and i would say that he wrote more good songs than lennon but i personally think that lennon was overall greater because he wrote more classics than mccartney, it was lennon that wrote almost all of the early beatles singles that made them worldwide stars. lennon was clearly the better lyricist. i think that mccartney needed lennon more than the other way round...his solo albums prove this i think, and finally, lennon had more of an edge to him which made him more interesting than mccartney.
... ... i love them both but lennon, for me, was the main man. This is right on. Lennon was the driving force behind the Beatles (people seem to forget that), though Paul was far more motivated (with regards to the band) by 1967 or so. And people always say Paul's solo career was far better, but if you compare the two greatest hits albums--All the Best & The Lennon Collection, you'll find they are pretty comparable as far as well known songs. But Lennon's have far more substance. None of Paul's solo albums are great IMO. A few come close, but I think even Mind Games & Walls & Bridges are superior to most of Paul's albums. Paul definitely has a gift for melody, but so does Andrew Lloyd Webber & Billy Joel. Nice to listen to but not exactly life changing. Unfortunately, both were better with each other and we can only imagine what the 70's would have been like if they stayed together. Check this song out at:

CrozzaUK said: I still view all their solo stuff as collective. I make compilations based on each year in the 70's in which i put all their best solo stuff from that year on their. Do it and youll see that the best Beatles stuff was actually yet to come. This is an interesting idea. Too bad it would cost me a fortune in Paul George & Ringo. Could you give me an example of one of your "70's Beatles Albums?" Check this song out at:

There's not really a "story" per se, but I have heard a lot of their songs, of which I like none. I find the vocals grating and the production way too tinny and bassless. In addition, both John Lennon and Paul McCartney seem like egomaniacal pricks. I can't possibly deny their impact or their influence, but every song I've heard of theirs annoys me. Probably most annoying, though, are the fans that I have encountered. Most Beatles fans act like I am deaf or have a birth defect when I say that I don't like them, as if there's some goddamn law requiring all sentient beings to worship at the temple of the Fab Four. Such arrogance and narrow-mindedness is off-putting and makes me hate the Beatles even more. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
