Alicia Keyes

I really don't care for Alicia Keyes. Is it just me? Just about every person I've talked to has said the same thing. Even my mother, who has only seen her perform live on some tv shows, said she can't sing. I think her singing is a bit "forced." I bought her album the first week it was released and I tried listening to it for a full week and I could never finish the album. It's collecting dust. I remember her and Nikka coming out around the same time and I totally prefer Nikka's style. What do you think?

I think she is ok,i loved her song "falling" but the rest of the album is kinda weak 2 me.I praise her 4 playing an instrument tho.that is sooo rare these days sad
and she does seem positive with no excessive profanity)if any)

I love her song "Butterflyz" and "Never felt this Way". Those are two great r&b tunes. The rest of the album I could do without. She's definitely overrated, and her three hits really grate on your nerves after awhile.

I like Alicia's look and style, and I also bought the CD, which I don't find as fascinating as they make it seem. I think she probably has potential, but she only has like 3 good songs on it, "A woman's worth', 'Fallin', and Prince's song 'How come you don't call me anymore'. I also think that she plays too much into the hip-hop image and language whenever she shows up live somewhere that makes it seem like they push her into doing it for marketing purposes, which also makes her seem phony in a way. But you can tell that she really does know how to sing though, and I still dig the three songs I mentioned anyway.

I think "potential" is the key word to describe Alicia Keys. You all have to remember that Ms Keyes is still quite young. She's just a rookie, but I think some people are trying to compare her to the Divas that have been around for years and those who have already paid their dues many times over.

But in any case, when I listened to her album, it was clear to me that she is more record company "hype" than anything else. That being said, I did see her perform live at last years celebration, and I do think she has A LOT of potential and could very well be one of the artists that we remember for a long time depending on how she approaches the rest of her career. But I do think some people need to lighten up a little bit and give her the benefit of the doubt at such a young age.

I can't listen to her version of "HCUDCMA". I just do not like the vocal delivery.
I believe she's got talent but it's just not my cup of tea.

Sure, she has potential but all this hoopla over an album that's not that good is getting to me (as if I have an album..lol) and she cannot accept and award. Good lawd whenever she gets to the podium I cringe

Agree.

I second that emotion.
It gets irritating when industry folks seem to push someone on you too much. Young lady has some talent, looks and piano skillz, but I couldn't get into album #1 as much as others. Maybe I'll feel the next one.
I'll give her points for the messages about being a "real man'', and for showing a brother love in her videos, even the one in jail.

I think, for her,the real test will be how her second album sounds and how well it does, commercially. Will she grow as a musician,or will she just simply make "Songs In A Minor Part 2"? It's too early in the game to predict how her career will turn out.I'm not that crazy about anything she's done so far,but I'm not gonna count her out just yet.She is undeniably talented and her best work is ahead of her.

But yes,I agree, she is extremely over-hyped.Just goes to show what a marketing genuis Clive Davis really is:)

That's hysterical!! lol

I think she's ok. I really liked her at first, but then the Alicia-rama began and I got so sick of it. She's very good on the piano and she does have a beautiful voice, although sometimes it can sound 'forced'. I think she has extreme potential, she just has to make the right decisions to do so. I'm not thrilled with her album, maybe her next one will be better. Hopefully not a half assed job...we'll see!

Ahhh C'mon now people give a sista a credit, sure she got nothing on sistah girl L-Boogie but I think she got it going on. The only thing I hate about her is she put her BEST SONGS in soundtrax sad, I'm telling you just listen to 'Dah Deh Dah'(Sexy thang)(This song reminds me a lot of Erykah Badu) from Men in Black OST and Fight from Ali OST. Hell, I'm glad she included 'Rock wit you' in her CD otherwise I'D BE REALLY PISSED OFF,,,LOL biggrin

But I got sad when she sampled James Brown's song in that 'Fallen' shit without giving the ol' brotha a credit. Now you know thats messed up but I believe that her ppl were behind all that.

I LOVE ALICIA KEYS' CD. The more I listen to it, the more I like...it flows nicely and she has a pretty voice.

It's not like WOAH! AMAZING OUTTA THIS WORLD type ish, but it's good. I like it...I'd rather listen to that album than Rainbow Children. (no offense to the Rainbow Children lovers)

she's ok. my old boyfriend played her cd every second of the day and that worked my last nerve. there's only so much i can take of that voice of hers. i do not think it's beautiful, nor do i think it's bad...it's just...well um...OK. i guess that's my general theme with her. the best single (i think) she has put out yet has been "hcydcma".

i like the melody in her music. that part is easy to listen to, but alas, her voice and her "high notes" sound like she will blow up something in her brain if she doesn't watch out. eek

isn't her name spelled k-e-y-s by the way wink

The backlash against Alicia Keys started after she won 5 Grammy Awards. I think alot of people thought that was an excessive amount of awards to give for her debut album.

There are so many artists who are much more deserving of awards and recognition than Ms. Keys.

When she first came out I thought she was one of the better new young artists on the scene. But I think people got sick of all of the Alicia hype. She's being pushed in everyone's face as some sort of prodigy just because she has had classical piano lessons.

her piano playing is better than her singing..
like it's been said, she's capable of more, & it will be great if she (finally) lives up to the

HYPE

that's been built up around her..
the same hype that.. got her all those Grammy's..

her version of "how come.." is okay, but it- like every other cover I've heard of the song- hardly does the original justice. I doubt anyone can top Prince on his version of this b-side classic.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
