Its thick enough to cut with a knife..smooth enough to be a spread..and subtly obvious enough its... ..hard not to get sucked it. You get sucked in and think like they think. And do what they do. You're a clone.
A CLONE FRESH OFF THE .ORG ASSEMBLY LINE. This is an amazing site, built and maintained in honor of a great person. I love it. I've learned so much here. My eyes have been opened wider than they ever have..to A LOT of things. One thing my eyes have been opened up to is this whole Clear Channel thing. I'd never heard about it before, but the more I read about it the more disgusted with it I came. But then I started thinking. The .Org is just like Clear Channel. It'd been comming on for months, months of observing, months of reading, months of disgust. I have a bone to pick with the .Org. My rant will probably fall on deaf ears. I'm sure people won't even read it this far. And those that read the entire thing probably won't reply. Its cool. But now I think its MY turn to open up some eyes. I aint into name dropping, but u know who you are; this isn't meant to start confrontation with folks. People on here go on and on about Clear Channel as if it is the devil. Saying its corrupting the youth, turning them in to zombies, drones, clones; hypnotized, etc... I have no problem with people having beliefs. You believe this? Cool. I don't agree, but ya know whatever to each his own, right? Many on here have made a huge deal out of Prince exressing his beliefs (I have too I admit) they feel he is pushing his beliefs on him. They don't like it. Thats the way the org feels to me. People bashing others for their taste in music, pushing their music on them and either bashing s'more or pushing s'more if they don't like it. Its like u have to be against todays music..thats what it feels like its coming from some people. Its scary. People like what they like, aint no shame or blame in that. If everybody was the same than there'd be no diversity. We'd all be funkers, jazzers, rockers, etc...anything but current state of musicers. Peope like what they like, get over it. I could go on and on about this subject. I have in my head for months. I could rant til kingdom come, but my point is clear in whats already been said. No need to fill this thing up with unnecessary buzzwords. But I do have one last thing to say... Its thick enough to cut with a knife. Smooth enough to be a spread. And subtly obvious enough that its hard not to get sucked in. Music Snobbery, Holier Than Thou-ness, Fake Deep Syndrome is alive and well on the .Org I hope I haven't offended anyone with my post. That was NOT the intention. But if u are feeling your pulse race, you're probably guilty and maybe this was your reality check. PEACE Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

i think it was well written, but i'm concerned about the idea of folks not feeling comfortable discussing music they like in this forum.
to a certain extent, we all have to have a thick skin - it's the internet, so someone's gonna be a wisenheimer and goof on EVERYthing people post about with any level of enthusiasm or admiration; but i think we have an environment in this forum where we can pretty much dismiss that kind of trollery and talk about the stuff that matters. if there are threads on here right now that are indicative of the problems that made you start this thread, i'd really appreciate you pointing them out to me, so i can see what the problem is and try to fix it.

There is a degree of this occurring but it seems to me that more often, the threads are great venues for learning more about an artist by a range of followers ~ novice to hard core. Just go back a few weeks and take a look at the Tori threads started by JonSnow, GangstaFam and SassyBritches. They were filled with analysis of the music and the artist, help in finding obscure tunes and tickets and general good will toward the work and the people responding. The Miles Davis threads are another example ~ I'm astounded how much I learn every time a new one pops up and there is little negativity on them. Now ~ one of my favourite artists ~ Bjork ~ gets slammed every time there is a word written about her. But, I just ignore those, think for a second about what they are missing, wonder why in the world they spend the time and effort responding to a thread about someone they don't like and go on. I agree with you that it is an amazing site and just as you would do with friends ~ select who you like to keep company with and keep the rest on the sidelines. Thought provoking thread and well written! Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

The org does not exist in a vacuum, if the music taste of the outside “clear channel society” reflects a hive mentality, than why would we be any different (Not to say that we are like them ) This site is dedicated to a specific artist, this is not “music central”, this site will attract a particular music listener. However much we may dislike something, virtually everything and everyone is discussed; what more could you ask for?

I thought things were bad before... but smore bashing!?! Who would want to harm a helpless chocolate covered graham-cracker marshmallow sandwich? That's just sick! I don't know what I ever saw in this place. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

Wasn't going to reply but this is an important thread. Moonwalk makes good points.
There is a difference between Like mind and Drone. Like mind is good. Drone leads to intolerence....even worse: Tolerence to intolerence. For the most part, the org seems to be a good place and so are the people on it but there needs to be a thread such as this to serve as a checkpoint to give the often needed equilibrium. Dewrede said: come to think of it , wouldn't not expressing one's true feelings be denying oneself ?
That's the point...to let one express their true feelings. Your expression shouldn't, however prevent one from doing this. It shouldn't be "My true feelings are that you're not allowed to feel that way".
Lilgish...in many ways the "Hive" thing is a good thing but you have to continually check this as when in a hive some are more inclined to adopt the drone behavior. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

And thats part of my point! The biggest, most recent example i can think of is on the hate for todays music. Its like if you have so much of a problem with it why aren't you doing something about it? Going on and on about how it sucks and how clear channel is doing this and that isn't gonna change a damn thing. That same machine is gonna keep going and going until someone throws a rench in one of the gears and stops it. Or until it stops itself. lilgish said: 50, Usher....yea we bash ppl, but if you dislike it when your man/woman gets bashed then you should say something.
Its not the bashing that I don't like. Hell I can't stand 50 and am teetering on the tolernce/intlerence fence with usher. Thats not my problem. Its the CONTINOUS bashing (and before anyone says any thing, i have been guilty of this in the past also, which is also part of what got me to thinking) that gets me. When its for fun its one thing. You wanna call usher a glowworm? Whatever, that shit is funny. You wanna call beyonce skankmonster, hey thats funny too. Its all meant in jest. But its like...its irks me about when i know folks is dead serious and they harp on and on about a specific subject. Its like when a humming bird is humming in your ear. At first you deal with it, find it kinda funny, but the longer it goes on the more its like - get outta my fucking ear already!- I'm not trynna take away anyones freedom of expression. Far from it. Just excersizing mine. dewrede said: come to think of it , wouldn't not expressing one's true feelings be denying oneself ? Dewrede you're right! Please don't think i'm trying to stop folks from expressing themselves. I'm just expressing myself. But its like...how many times are you gonna express the same feeling, especially if its negative? I'm the type of person who feels that if you haven't done shit or if you're not gonna do shit, than why go on and on about it? Whats done is done, whats here is here; all the wishing, hoping, praying, bashing etc,,etc in the world aint gonna bring the days of old back. only YOU can do that. I'm not saying expressing yourself is bad; far, far from it. I love expression its beautiful; thats what i'm doing now, but after i'm done with this thread i'm done with the subject. Its over and done for me. I've said what i had to say and if u felt it cool and if not thats also cool. However, i aint into harping on things i don't like over and over with no intention..or ability to change. Its not my style. To harp on about the same things over and over without a solution for it all..its counter revolutionary. Drone leads to intolerence....even worse: Tolerence to intolerence.
Thats also true. I think theres a fair amount of this here. Any one who knows me knows that i LOATHE, I detest like a SICKNESS hypocrasy. i'd rather be in the company of a theif, than a hypocrite. I hear folks go on and on about this whole clear channel shit. From what i've read on here clear channel is this big bad machine; it has its goals..an agenda, and does whatever it has to get that goals accomplished. That goal varies from orger to orger...some think they're making the youth mindless (i don't care what u say. unless you are braindead; nobody is mindless. it all comes down to what they like.or what they want to like) and that they're keeping the better acts out of view. why i don't know. thats a whole nother thread right there. Now like i said, i can't stand hypocrites. and it seems like, especially where todays music and clear channel is concerned. their are alot of hypocrites. On the one hand some say clear channel is keeping the real (btw i hate that world REAL, who determines whats real or not real?) music, the real musicians etc..in the background. Puting all these crunk and shoot em up so called thugs and sexy singers in the open. And while i agree with those that don't like the majority of whats out today. I'm not going to sit around bashing it all day..calling it shite and what not. Thats counter revolutionary. Running off at the mouth all the time about how bad music is etc..etc.. aint gone change SHIT! Its just like those folks that didn't vote and now want to be pissed at the big bad Bush; you aint do shit, you're not doing shit, get over it. Then on the other hand those same people are like..The youth should be listening to [insert rocker here] [insert funker here] [insert rapper here] etc..etc. And while I have no problem with it. Ya learn something new everyday right? It seems just like how you describe clear channel. Pushy, telling people what to like. Saying this is hot. This is not. And if you aint feeling whats hot you aint got no taste. You're a clear channel clone, etc..etc.. When I read things along those lines it burns me up. Its like - you fucking hypocrite! How dare you? - But then I regain my composure and realize -Hey its a free country. Ya can't really change how a person feels. You either speak on it. Or live with it.- So i've spoken on it. And now i'm living with it. Cuz continous harping w/o action aint my style. Peace p.s Thank you to yall who said it was well written. nobody has ever bothered me in Non-Prince Music. If i don't dig an artist, i don't click.
simple as. I have bought music on more than one occasion purely on the basis that the artist/album got a good write up on a thread up in here. Nothing wrong with Non-Prince forum. It's natural that Prince fans differ in their taste of music. Look at Prince! he covers so many styles of music, that's why we are what we are.

I guess I missed all the talk about Clear Channel. You're right "...thats a whole nother thread right there...". I'll save the bulk of my thoughts for that. I will say that when it comes to things like Clear Channel, you have to be thankful that there are things like the .org...and the web in general. It's places like this that are the great equilizer.
When you own 1/3 the market (Radio, Billboards, arenas) it's a bit scary. It's one thing for Gates to be so large...he's not a Media company. Clear is a company that creates the media and serves it as well. There are many concerns about the political voice/power they have. Also many don't realize that for each analog channel they also have 10-12 digital channels (FCC gave them this spectrum for free)...so they can serve data and if they decide they want to do R&B, country, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Bluegrass etc...they can do it all. (there are only a few years left for analog radio so it's only a matter of time). The good thing now is the backlash they're getting. They overlooked the localized needs and many have stopped listening. They are now moving more towards the Walmart model. They are about to split. They will soon no longer produce content but will partner with other content producers. At this point they will simply be a network (of affiliates)...not much different than the television networks. Moon, I understand your concerns and the Clear comparison...but as long as you have a voice, you can do what you did in creating this thread. With Clear...there is only one voice and it comes from the top. Anytime one person/group has so much power...many become afraid. This always comes back to the web. No one can own it. It's a good thing it's here. It's a good thing the .org is here. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

One thing about it is that the org is is not affiliated with a label. So, the masses is going to get the real deal minus the agendas and propaganda. Having threads like this keeps the media heads and record mogols in check who might try to around here and push their agendas. [Edited 6/25/05 19:26pm]
