Elvis, Funky?

Hey, Im a pretty big fan of elvis, listening 2 "Viva las vagas", "Devil in disguise" and "little less conversation" I believe these tracks are really funk driven, also when i watch or listen 2 him live the band is so tight and funky, so Y isn't Elvis considered funky!?!

Don't let it get to you Andykeen. Many people on this site don't think Elvis deserved any of the fame and fortune he acquired. The fact is, even though Elvis was not the orignator, if it wasn't for him and a few others, black musicians would've never gotten any recognition. Elvis helped bring music from blacks into the spotlight. Even though Elvis didn't invent funk, he is funky!

So basically you're saying "Good thing Elvis stole a lot from Chuck Berry or else other Black artists wouldn't have made it" LOL! Good grief! That reasoning is ridiculous.

Basically what I'm saying is that people have to stop shitting all over Elvis. He was a great pop singer and entertainer. He did a lot for music and other musicians. The fact that most blacks think he stole everything from them is just sour fucking grapes!! Get over it!

Amen.

But it's worthless trying to defend Elvis, it's been turned into a racial issue and you know how sticky that kind of shit can get.

You got that right Jay. I may sound naive, but I wish people would get over some things like this. There are far more important issues in this world than to debate if Elvis stole music from blacks. If it wasn't for Elvis, there are many people who would have never given black music a chance. Because Elvis embraced it, he made it ok for the true red-necks to like that kind of music.

I'm out!!

hrmph Being that alot of you are naive of enough to believe that, I let you slide. Little do you know, red necks been listening to Blues which is orignially Black Music but some of you fail to realize that. Country music comes from the Blues but alot of you fail to realize that and that's why I here to inform you and let you know how ignorant you sound and dispell all stereotypes and myths.

A Little Less Conversation is kind of funky.

I've said it before, but everybody wants to lay claim to young Elvis' style, but nobody wants credit for rhinestone studded jumpsuits and karate dancing and TV shooting. Nobody says his drug addiction was a bite off Charlie Parker & Billie Holiday.

Seems to me Elvis was pretty original, though he obviously had influences. So did Mozart. So did everyone.

So you're cool with artists stealing other artists moves and sound and not giving ANY credit whatsoever to the artists they stole from, correct? Ok, I just wanted to make sure I read you correctly. You'd be a great criminal.

You sound extremely naive, and I can understand it for the most part. Most people don't look at these sort of things in life if they do not adversely affect you. So I never waste too much time in showing people the light.

But thank god for red-necks, huh? Or else music wouldn't be where it's at now without their support. Right? WTF? LOL!

No one said who he can like and not like. Where'd you get that notion? All I did was come to add a little truth to the topic. I can't help it if a lot of you can't handle the truth about Elvis and choose to look the other way. Those are your demons to exorcise, not mine.

Yeah, and that's the major point to all of this: If you weren't affected by any of this, why should you care? Camille wasn't affected by any of this so she has no reason to care.

THE FIVE IMMUTABLE RULES OF THE ORG: MUSIC:NON-PRINCE FORUM

Rule #1: Everything Michael Jackson does will be reported, but never in the same thread.

Rule #2: Once her name is mentioned, all threads are destined for M*****.

Rule #3: Threads about tween pop stars get tons of coverage, and the most replies, even though none of us listen to them (apparently).

Rule #4: thesexofit will always phrase his sentence fragments as questions.

Rule #5: All Elvis threads, no matter the topic, eventually turn into Elvis-Stole-Music-From-The-Blacks debates.

Miles

So - If Elvis stole all this music from black people, did Duke Ellington and Stevie Wonder 'steal' from whites when they wrote classical-influenced music? Did Ray Charles and Charlie Pride 'steal' from whites cos they recorded country music? Did Miles Davis 'steal' from white people when he played with orchestras? It cuts both ways brotha.

Elvis loved music period. Like all great music artists, he saw no distinctions of colour in music, cos music has no colour. He was nowhere near the first white artist to perform blues-based music anyway. Are we saying that Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams and not mention George Gershwin 'stole' music from blacks? Did all black piano players 'steal' from whites cos they played a 'white invented' instrument?

James Brown, BB King, Little Richard, Jackie Wilson and John Lee Hooker all respected Elvis for his talent and he respected them for theirs. Need I say more? Damn it, reading between the lines, Prince is an Elvis fan to some extent and has been influenced by him. This is my first and last post on this subject.

And back on topic, the Elvis tracks 'Polk Salad Annie' (various '70s live versions), and the gospel funk song 'I Got a Feeling in my Body' from 1973 are possibly his funkiest tracks.
