I've been a Prince fan for just about as long as I've been a Janet Jackson fan, close to 20 years. I have ALWAYS acknowledged Prince's arrogance, for lack of a better word. From what I can tell though, Prince fans can still be a fan of his music, while at the same time being realistic about him as a person. However, with some other artists, the fans just don't seem to be as "realistic" in their criticism. It's like their "idol" is either all good or bad, and in order to appreciate his/her music or be a REAL FAN, a person has to accept EVERYTHING that particular artist does or music he/she releases as WONDERFUL, GREAT, blah, blah, blah. Well, that's not the case with ANY artist, Prince included.

It just seems that at least the Prince fans on this site at least are more open to discussing the bad as well as the good. It's just an observation from reading that section coz I'm just starting to post more often here coz I like and appreciate the "vibe." I like the fact that both the moderators and fans here are open to discussion.

I think alll great artists ARE self indulgent to a certain degree. It just comes with knowing what you want to say and not letting anyone dissuade you from your vision. You have to be somewhat arrogant to carry out your vision and have it come out the way you want it to.
