So far, 2005 sucks for music. I haven't heard a decent thing all year really...except a few things amaybe at the start of the year...

So was last year (I couldn't pick 10 favorite Cds...anything new wasn't that notable!) and the year before was only OK. 2002 was the last great year in music for me, probably because one of my favorite Cds, Bowie's "Heathen" was released. | |

It's been fairly lackluster for me too.

 Those Cure remasters are unbelievable.

The new albums by Gorillaz and Brian Eno are great, and New Order's "... Siren's Call" was surprisingly good. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. 2005 is no different. Music has been fucked up for years. I don't even look for or expect any good new music any more. I gave up on it years ago and focus on building up more of my old music collection.
It's a damn shame that people are so dead these days because I'm only 37. I can remember people in their 30s listening to and partying to the latest music in the 1980s. Hell, Rick James was in his 30s when he had his biggest hits. When you walk into a club nowadays, it's like walking into a damned high school. [Edited 6/17/05 4:15am] Andy is a four letter word. | |

Aren't you even into some of the more progressive modern house? Of course it's not the same thing as before, but some of it sounds quite interesting. I should personally investigate further. | |

nice to see someone else into the new Bruce album.....this album could make a non-Bruce fan like him....it sounds really different and more original than anything after Born in the USA.....also, Quasimoto, Weezer, Beck, Kings of Leon, Queens of the Stone Age and Mars Volta have made my year as far as music goes....it is a great year for me | |

I always get into old bands that have previously passed me by. 99.9% of my music purchases are back catalogue, so I don't really mind if 2005 sucks - There is still plenty of great music out there in the racks just waiting for me to discover it. | |

I somewhat agree. I haven't been too impressed with the new music so far. I do like Becks latest and I haven't bought the new Coldplay, but I will pick it up soon. I haven't bought too many "new" cd's this year. I have bought older music, but very little new stuff. | |

I totally disagree.
If you cant find good music, its all because of your laziness. just dig deeper. try different bands, clubs, labels, fanzines, styles, countries etc for inspiration. Especially pay attention to the names you have never heard before, its the only way to discover new. and go to the gigs! the good music is always there, but usually not on the charts. new music doesnt mean new albums of your old favourites but new music from your new favourites. for me this year has been one hell of a year again. new great music coming every week. this week it was for me Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods. Come on, don't give up. ********************************************

I agree 100%. I love my older artists from the 80s and 90s, but I'm also constantly looking for new artists that will turn me on. Last year I discovered Nellie McKay's debut and it quickly became one of my favorite albums of the last ten years. | |

2005 is shaping up to be the best year of the decade music wise.
We have already been given a Pop/R&B gem with Mariah's new album. A top notch Hip Hop record with Common's "Be". A soulful Faith Evens release. A quiet storm classic with Kem's "Album II". The advance copy I have of Jaguar Wright's follow up is outstanding. And we have Stevie and Earth, Wind & Fire with new projects waiting in the wings. If we get a new Maxwell or Prince album by the end of the year, I'd have to call this the best year in music since sometime in the mid 90s. To each there own but I'm lovin' 2005! *edit* And I forgot to even mention Mint Condition! 2005 rules! [Edited 6/17/05 14:54pm] Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance
