Z CULT FAVORITE - Fool To Cry/The Rolling Stones "Fool To Cry" is such a beautiful song. I've been in love with this song ever since I was little kid. Released as a single in April 76, from their wonderful "Black and Blue" album, "Hot Stuff" is another brilliant gem, "Fool To Cry" was actually the first single off of the album. Man, the intro to the song and the string sound on the keyboard that plays the melody on the chorus is just...pretty. You can best believe that Prince gives a heavy nod to this on The Time's "Girl". Anyway, who else out there digs "Fool To Cry"? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

B, you've done it again. (lol) This is a great song and I caught the video not too long ago on VH-1 Classics (never knew there was one for it). This whole LP kicks ass. The 70's is my favorite era of the Stones. This LP has everything, reggae, soul, blues rock, and funk. Good pick B!

Very good tune.
I must tell you though that i've never been a fan of Mick Jagger's falsetto. His vocal on Emotional Rescue almost makes me start to laugh. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Thanx, SPYZ! I didn't know they had a clip for the song either, player! Damn! I would have loved to have captured that on tape. Man, "Black and Blue" is basically a tribute to black music. The word was that the album title is about leaving your woman "black and blue" after rough sex. But I think they called it "Black and Blue" because they knew that whole album sounded "black" and they have always been "blues" purists. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Hell yeah, it sounds funny, but, it's kinda funky too. "Miss You" is killin'! The main thing that I've always dug about Mick is that he doesn't give a shit. He can't dance worth a shit, never could. BUT, he is always dancing. I dig that. Mick knows his falsetto sounds funny, but he sounds like HE thinks he's getting down. And that shit's cool to me. I agree. Mick said he listened to a lot of Prince's music when the Stones recorded "Emotional Rescue" back in 1980. That's probably where the falsetto influence came (or should I say 'came back') in on that. And Prince said "Miss You" was the only Stones song he wished he had written. So Prince and Mick do have some kind of mutual "respect" thing goin' on.

And don't forget that "Uptown" is basically "Miss You". Same bassline, same Keith Richards guitar riffs on the verses of "Uptown". P also sings the same melody line on "Erotic City" from "Miss You". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I still dig this song. [Edited 6/15/05 16:36pm]

Thank you. I also have the 45. Isn't that one of the best 45's in the world. That's basically a double A side with "Hot Stuff"! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Hey Black you bring out some good joints. I was just playing some Stones at work the other night. I had a cousin who loved the Black & Blue album and turned me on to it. Fool To Cry was banging and I also love the groove riff to Hot Stuff.

Black & Blue is way underrated.Memory motel is another (forgotten) Stones ballad, and hot stuff is funky along with hey negitita Yeah, it is. I think it's underrated cuz a lot of Stone fans, although they dig the album, they don't want to cop to it. Just like they dig "Miss You", same thing. So, you'll be hard pressed to find a hardcore Stone fan admitting that shit. "Black and Blue" album is waaay to black sounding for a lot of those Stones fan to admit to digging.
