"I'm Not in Love" or "Bohemian Rhapsody" I've read a few articles in the past year or so (most recently on allmusic) comparing 10cc's I'm Not in Love to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, mostly because of their really exquisite use of layered vocal tracks. The 10cc tune had 256 vocal tracks (), and when Bohemian Rhapsody came out later that same year it featured an equally astonishing set of overdubs. Mind you, this was obviously before the advent of digital technology which would make this a quick operation. Both songs proved to be near-impossible to stage on a live stage.
Is one song better than the other? Is it even fair to compare the two?

I'll probably get my ass kicked for this one but I prefer I'm Not In Love.

Both songs are completely different
I think this thread is worse then this http://www.prince.org/msg/8/124500 Both are played out on radio and vh1. Particually "bohemian rhapsody". Bloody sick of that song now. [Edited 6/9/05 19:33pm]

I love both of those songs and Phil Collins clearly ripped off Randy Jackson. I think this thread is worse then this http://www.prince.org/msg/8/124500 Both are played out on radio and vh1. Particually "bohemian rhapsody". Bloody sick of that song now. [Edited 6/9/05 19:33pm]

BR, hands down.
Tori Amos's verion of INIL blows away the original. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Bohemian Rhapsody is probably more dazzling just because of the dynamics of the tune, But I'm partial to the 10cc tune myself...

... SAME here. "rhapsody" is a VERY unique song, & I like it mainly for that. I especially like the "spaciness" of "I'm not in love", & the video too.. but I did not know this track had 250 VOCAL TRACKS on it ! ! ! ! ! that blows my mind.. I can't imagine HOW LONG it must have taken them to do those tracks.. where did you find this info?? I'll see you tonight..

Sorry , but i hate 'I'm Not In Love'
it's too slick and not showing any emotion whatsoever imo , and i don't see any simularities with 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

All Music mentioned it in their review of the song: As an edited single, and across the full length LP track, "I'm Not in Love" first earned admiration for its production techniques, with some 256 vocal dubs required to complete the lush harmonies behind Stewart's vocal. It's also mentioned on the greatest hits set that I have from them.

I like both, but I have to go w/ Bohemian Rhapsody.
I just love the whole beginning of it before it really rocks out. The brillianter side of minneapolisgenius

I'm Not In Love just seems a bit too knowingly clever for its own good. A bit kind of "hey, look how ironic we are, aren't we dry?"
At least Bohemian Rhapsody rocks and has some decent singing on it.

Decent singing is an understatement
Freddie was one of the best singers ever imo

Put me down for 10cc's I'm Not In Love based on its use of the voices (not to say that one song is better than the other).
I prefer the way the voices set that ethereal mood and remain in character throughout the tune. Until now I had no clue that 10cc used that many voices to create the background effect. The use is obvious with Bohemian Rhapsody. I appreciate the subtleness of the trickery. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
